How do you go about learning a new tune on your own? Do you read first, listen first, arpeggiate first? impro first? What would be the best way?

Hi everyone! I'm coming back to jazz violin after being away from it for a little over a year, and I'm curious about other people's experiences. If you've taken a long break, what was the hardest part of coming back? Was there anything you did that helped you get your playing back more quickly? How can I get started?
