I had never met or trained a donkey before and one day a client of mine asked me to purchase a couple of very neglected donkeys who were kept at the same place as her horses. (I'm a horse trainer.) Being a big softy I wanted to help and had to take them home. They were both pretty feral, with one donkey Seymour not able to be caught, haltered or trimmed and was very head shy and his friend Dorothy was only slightly better. I proceeded to fall in love with donkeys and with lots of positive reinforcement training, turned them around to being lovely well trained donkeys. I then took on a mini for training, Kaspian. He failed his test to be a service animal, so I couldn't bear to sell him for his owner, so I took him on and then of course had to find him a suitable companion and ended up with 2 minis as well! They have been massively fun to train as well, and the supposedly "well handled" mini Paddy has been the most fearful donkey I have yet encountered and I've helped local people train their pretty shut down donkeys! It's so great to be around fellow donkey lovers. It's tricky to get a photo of them all together, but I have a fun video I took of some training I did with Seymour and Dorothy, it always makes me giggle. https://youtu.be/n8s32982h28?si=f0cm6jhHNBoS_jb5
My other donkey had a swollen fetlock and needed to be iced twice a day, Tito was VERY interested in what was happening and wanted to participate. So here he is practicing his leg ice wraps.
I don't know what it is but I just love watching trimming and that was nice! No questions, my donkeys are fab for trimming, but always interested in hoof stuff 🥰
