What's your preseason routine
So as I have posted before I have started running. Not massive distances but enough to get the blood pumping and consistent. Most footballers say preseason is the most important part of the year as that's when they get ready for the new season. I'm interested to see what others do. Have you added anything to your preseason or are you just waiting for matches to kick off.

My son has started running too. Not something that comes naturally or easy for him. Just easy jogs with his mum and the odd 5km park run. Managed to run a huge 3 min PB yesterday, which means has the got the bug and wants to do another park run next week. Has started going to the gym too. And Summer is only time can squeeze in 121s. Summer is messy with hols etc so does mean missing some club sessions.
2 keepers at u14
Hi everyone During the summer my lad's Sat club told us they would be bringing in a second keeper and playing a half each. Son has only returned to keeping a year and we decided to leave and drop down a division to play the full game for his development. Lad was gutted with how he was treated. His Sunday team asked for early commitment during the summer, some lads were trialling elsewhere etc and they only wanted people committed to the team. We committed and paid subs for the year. Now they are a trialling a second keeper. They haven't said anything to us about it and how it would impact on his playing time etc. Would you expect coaches to speak to us? Should we speak to them? Just let things play out? Was a lot of money and is a lot of travelling etc. They may not sign him but shows they are looking for a 2nd keeper. GK is such a confidence position. You need the confidence of the coaches and this is not what you need just before the season starts. What does the community think? Thanks

Last season he was afraid to make mistakes. In his review meeting they said to him we back you we want you to attack corners and if you make mistakes don't worry about it. It is harder to have that mindset potentially playing 50/50 or with a rival keeper. You will play safe as you won't want to be the keeper who makes a 'mistake'. It is a lot of money and commitment for 50% playing time. We can't get him training he gets himself there by bus and walking.

Thanks for all the replies. He has been working closely with the u14 now u15 keeper over the past year and they have been pushing each other. When he was injured my lad stepped in for him. They register their keepers for his own age and one above to cover injuries etc. If the second keeper is equal or better can see potentially see the benefit but if there is a quite a gap then you are helping the other keeper develop at the expense of your own progress. Appreciate that sounds selfish. From the other stand point at a young age as a developing keeper you need security and confidence of the coaches as you want your keeper to learn and to take risks which will mean mistakes. They want him to come for corners and play out from the back. Do people think sharing time will lead to both keepers being afraid to make mistakes? Afraid to come for crosses? Play out from the back? What about the teammates will they judge one over the other? Play differently eg dropping back more? The parents will they think oh they conceded because x dropped that corner he is the worse keeper not realising other goals are conceded by y not coming for crosses. We had all these thoughts when his Sat team brought in a second keeper. We left straight away and dropped a division. Didn't think issue would reappear a few weeks later.
Dropping down a tier in development groups
Morning all, we just found out the my George has been dropped down from the keeping emerging talent group (they halved the amount of keepers), to the keeping development group from our local biggest team. Just wondering if you guys have any advice or words of wisdom - I can pass on to an 11 year old? For context he got moved up to that group at Christmas and has only completed his first season as a full time keeper for his grassroots team, so maybe he just needs more experience and patience?

It is really tough when they are young. It means a lot to them at the time and they can't see the long term or the big picture. Just steps along the journey to adult football. My lad had an 8 week academy trial when he was u9. Wasn't signed and found it tough to recover from it. Ended up quitting keeping halfway through u10. Then out of nowhere restarted at u13. For us now it is all about focusing on the enjoyment and the development regardless of the level now and the goal is to play adult football whatever level that might be. Appreciate easier for a now u14 to understand than an u9 as he was or your u11.
New EJA preseason
Today was my new EJA's first ever match together and it was the complete opposite to yesterday's match. I don't even know what we lost by (6/7-0) although the opposition parents even said at least 2 of their goals were offside but there is a lot the team can take from the match and I did what I could do but always room for improvement. We will keep training and gel as a team

My lad joined two new teams last year and has had to change again this summer. As a GK can only do your best. He has played in strong teams and weaker teams relative to others in the league. Definitely prefers to be busy than doing nothing!
👋 Welcome to the J4K Goalkeeper Community!
Hi Keepers and Parents As you probably know, goalkeeping is a VERY LONELY position for both keepers and parents. If you are a parent who has no idea how to help your child, let the leading goalkeeper coaching school since 1998 hold you and your child by the hand. We have helped hundreds of keepers go pro or gain USA scholarships. For example, Adam Davies, who plays for Wales and was in the 2022 World Cup, is an ex-J4K student. This is exactly why J4K created this community—so you never have to do this alone again. There is absolutely nothing like this on the planet! To get started, please take two minutes to complete these two steps: 1️⃣ Introduce Yourself Below: Tell us your name, what country you’re from, and share ONE thing you or your child is struggling with right now (handling, positioning, or confidence). 2️⃣ Claim Your Free Asset: I have unlocked The Free Goalkeeper Confidence Blueprint completely for free to eliminate match-day anxiety before your next game.
