Fractals for Wellbeing & Weekly Challenge!
Happy Wednesday folks, I've recently been reading into fractals and how they can support our wellbeing. You can view fractals in many different ways, however, as outdoorsy types, the best way is through nature. Fractal viewing has been linked to stress reduction, the increase in alpha brain waves and supporting positive mood. I've put together this infographic, I hope it helps. Weekly Challenge: This week's challenge is to head out and view / photograph some fractals in your area and come back and share in this thread 😁

Pack for Day 3, Not Day 1 Day 1 - You’re fresh, organised, and suspiciously optimistic. Day 3 is where reality shows up. When packing, ask yourself: • Will I still want to carry this when I’m tired? •Will I still need this when things are damp, messy, and morale is low? •Can this item do more than one job? Focus on: 🌿Reliable basics over “nice-to-haves” 🌿Lightweight, multi-use gear 🌿Easy access to essentials when you’re low on energy Because by Day 3, no one cares how clever your packing system is. You care about warmth, food, and not hating your bag. Old-school rule: if in doubt, simplify. Mini challenge: Lay your kit out and remove 3 non-essential items before your next trip. You won’t miss them & your shoulders will thank you

I use a sawyer with 3x 1 litres squeeze pouches and also a 3 litre gravity bag for staying in the same place . I would feel lost without a knife and saw an occasional and axe which i feel i should carry more but don’t. With the laws here it’s difficult justifying a knife, saw and an axe. I don’t mind leaving the pegs and some stuff. I dont think it makes sense to go out with nothing, I don't plan on ever being in a position to have nothing with me. Yes there are days when its raining heavy and cold that you think why did i not bring this or that and you get to day 3 and go why did i bring that Its about remembering that sometimes it good to do hard stuff. Even if that is carrying too much equipment.

@Roy Houston Lucky you. Here in Scotland you can carry a fixed blade knife to and from your place of use EG outdoors woods or bushcraft area and then back no more. Machetes are banned as of 2024. The carrying of knife with a fixed blade in public is illegal and will find you with a fine and possible jail time. You can carry a knife with a blade of less than 3” in public but it can not be lockable. Hence the reason carrying an axe and knife with a fixed blade is difficult here. And the police very rarely know the law and make an assumption. I carry them but they are always concealed and especially if carrying both and axe and knife I never wear a knife on my belt as this is just asking for trouble.

Any interesting wee micro adventures or trips happening? We've not been out lately due to illness so I'd love to hear what everyone else has been up to. 🧠 Share a reflection on something that happened this week 🌿 A photo of where you've spent time outdoors lately

Friday's Quizzy Question ❓❓
Yesterday was a busy day for me so coupling Thoughtful Thursday with Friday's Quizzy Question 👇🏼 ❓If access to the outdoors was taken away, what do you think would happen? Now, in Scotland, we have the Right to Roam so long as the Scottish Outdoor Access Code is followed. In England, it's a little different, they have some freedoms but less than Scotland. I'm unsure how things work overseas, but from what I can gather, in the US, there are National Parks available for visiting, but there are trespass laws and it's a little stricter? (Happy to be corrected). But what if complete access was blocked, no outdoor tourism/ no visiting National Parks, trespassing extended to these areas and more 😬 A horrible thought, but could it happen? Perhaps? a) How would you cope - emotionally & otherwise b) How do you think 'they' would begin implementing something like this? c) How long do you reckon it would take the public to revolt and cause chaos for those attempting to restrict its use? Let's open discussion and remember to be kind: 👇🏼 you guys know what to do 👍🏼

@Lisa O'Brien this is always a sticky question for me when did the land become the property of anyone? Scotland has the right to roam, but it seems to me that more and more land is being controlled by missing landlords and the room we have is shrinking day by day. Which is why we need to educate and instructor and pass on our knowledge and love for the land we all live on. Even when some believe it is theirs and only theirs. But that’s is a different topic all together….

@Lisa O'Brien I think the fear(biphobia) ,lack of knowledge and the control of the landowners will reduce activity in nature everywhere not just scotland.
