Most students who are stuck on their round off back handspring are actually ready for it physically. They can already do a round off. They can already do a standing back handspring. What holds them back is the mental block of connecting the two. So here’s how I break it down — and they usually get it in one class. 👇 I start from a cartwheel instead of a round off because it feels way less scary. Have them do: - Cartwheel → stop - Rise - Arms reach up - Swing down → back handspring (with a spot) Then repeat the rhythm with multiple Backsprings: - Cartwheel, stop, up and down, and back hand spring - Stop, up and down, and back hand spring - Stop, up and down, and back hand spring This builds timing, confidence, and flow. Once they’re comfortable with the rhythm: - Cartwheel → connected back handspring Then: - Cartwheel connected → stop → up and down → and back hand spring And once that feels easy: Switch the cartwheel for a round off. - Round off → back handspring connected. Because if they can do a round off and they can do a back handspring… They can do a round off back handspring. This progression removes the fear and replaces it with confidence and rhythm. PS: This way to connect b-springs works for split-out or two-foot... 👇 Try this in class and share your results below!
