Hi everyone, I’m Patrick. I’m a young professional working in the fintech space here in NYC, and while I’m clearly on the younger side of this group, I’m building toward a goal of early financial independence by my mid 30s. I’ve joined to learn from the collective wisdom of those who have already crossed the finish line, and more specifically, what you wish you had understood about retirement while you were still in the thick of your professional careers. @Brian Skory Thanks for sharing. You're kids are very lucky. I plan to do something similar with my family one day. Of course my goal is very optimistic, and does not account for kids (of which I want many haha), but yes I do keep my expenses very minimal. r/FIRE is a great community for tips and tricks. I have also been spending time after work delivering food. Keeps me working instead of spending!

Great read. It reminds me of one of James Clear’s main points in Atomic Habits (just finished reading, highly recommend) regarding how true behavior change is actually just identity change. Any transition can feel more natural when you focus on who you wish to become rather than what you are leaving behind.
