When Brian Cox says 'The best actors are children, and children don't do research. You never see a child going, 'I'm wondering about my motivation here. How can I do this toy? How can I do this train? I don't feel train.' He's actually saying that acting, at its core, is simply play and imagination. Children are naturally great at this because when they play with a toy train or pretend to be someone else, they fully believe in the moment without overthinking motivation or technique. His point is that many actors overanalyse their performances, while the best acting often comes from spontaneity, instinct, and a willingness to pretend freely just like a child playing a game.
