Welcome LorettaĀ Arey the community!! We are brand new and still learning the ropes, I'm excited to have you along for the journey! I have a few small presentations on common issues horse owners face such as colic, abscess, and basic nutrition and care. As we grow i will be adding more educational content, I'm always looking for suggestions on what people are struggling with. I have over 30 years as an equine professional, I have developed lots of tools for my horse handling tool box; I'm excited to use my experience to help guide other horse lovers.

First open house..
Hey all! Sorry I had to cancel the happy hour again today. We had our first open house at Rustic Ranch Rescue, with an amazing turnout. I was able to show everyone how we restart our off-the-track thoroughbreds for all the attendees. We acquired a 3-year-old gelding and a 2-year-old stud from the track this week. We gave them a few days to hang out and quarantine in our isolation barn. I was nervous about having my first sessions with each of them in front of such a large audience today, but thankfully both boys decided to play nice! I can't wait to see how their journeys unfold!!

@Zoƫ Coade I also am a less is more type of person, but i also believe that each horse is different and that if they need a little extra support to stay healthy im all about it. When I was on the grand prix circuit I fed my horses a normal diet 6 days a week and then a bran mash every Sunday. The diet consisted of top tier grain the is no sugar, high fat, high protein, low carb and low starch. for supplements we fed what ever supplements they needed to fill in the gaps for what they were lacking due to lack of turn out. Since then my feeding protocol has changed. I turn out as much as i possibly can, and feed more roughage than I do grain and offer minimal supplements. I no longer do Sunday bran mashes as it was pointed out by one of my very trusted vets that we were just shocking thier system one day a week by abruptly changing their diet. With more turn out and less additives to their diets, i find I have less ulcers, less colic and happier horses.
