How Are You Structuring Your S&C Training?
I’m interested in how others approach strength and conditioning alongside grappling training. Do you follow a structured program, or do you just lift when it fits around your training schedule? A few questions: - How many days per week are you lifting? - What types of movements do you prioritize? - Have you found certain exercises that translate well to grappling? Curious to hear how others are structuring their training.

I generally get one CrossFit day in a week and then a second day where it might involve 3 to 5 sets of a push, a pull, a hinge, and then a unilateral leg workout like Bulgarian split squats. That’s not to say I’m not doing stuff throughout the rest of the week, but the rest of it looks more like play I.e. either training jiu-jitsu or riding my bike or rucking with my dogs. Certainly more strength and conditioning than I used to do which is has helped but not enough deliberate training. So much depends on my work schedule and if I can even function the day after a 24-48 hour shift.
Introduction
I earned my blue belt in 2023 from Jerry VanZant at Valhalla AJJ. I currently train out of Shelbyville at Gracie Jiu Jitsu of Kentucky. I’m a firefighter and paramedic with far too many hobbies. My goal is longevity in the grappling arts.
