Most teams run Claude Code on five different personal configs and then wonder why one person's session behaves nothing like the next. The upstream Settings guide, refreshed Sep 1 for v2.1.252, lays out the fix. - Five layers of precedence: managed (IT) → CLI flags → .claude/settings.local.json → .claude/settings.json (committed, team-shared) → ~/.claude/settings.json. Commit the project file and everyone inherits the same pre-approved commands. - Array settings like permissions.allow are concatenated and de-duplicated across every layer, not replaced. Deny rules always win and no lower layer can override them. - 140+ settings and 315+ environment variables now exist. The env field inside settings.json replaces wrapper scripts entirely. I haven’t given up on it,, but. After I disconnected it from cc it went and found my Anthropic API, like a pirate. When I banned that I said use OpenAI, and it said sure, let me go get it. After that I disconnected it’s access to my email. It has thankfully not found its own account. Why try again? I need it to run a side gig I’m starting😂 But not before I give it its own email address.
