I’ve been using OpenTelemetry to catch both logs, metrics and traces. Then, pretty much any observability backend supports otel these days, so it becomes a matter of preference. I personally like either DataDog or Loki/Prometheus/Tempo/Grafana stacks.
Why containers are going to matter most in 2026! What do you think?
Why Containers Will Matter More Than Hypervisors in the 2026 Home Lab. Let me know what your container plans are in 2026. Getting rid of more VMs and moving to containers? https://www.virtualizationhowto.com/2026/01/why-containers-will-matter-more-than-hypervisors-in-the-2026-home-lab/

Yes. Containers have been around for a long time and in the recent years have become a standard in the industry. If something isn’t containerized, it’s really not even worth looking at, at least in my experience

One typically uses Git to manage DNS in a production environment (like Route53). I typically use Terraform for this :) So, managing your own DNS server for a homelab with Git feels natural! Good reading!

1 other cool thing you could add is: `kill [PID]` by default sends SIGTERM to the process. This way you can do "graceful" shutdown (if your application supports it, and in fact many do). kill -9 just wipes out the process, and if you have any database connection, or file read, etc. this WILL get impacted and you'll have to do some cleanup.
