Hey Everyone :)
Hey everyone 👋 I’m Brandon (or Bran for short) I’m 25 and about 2–3 years into my journey as a business analyst, and recently I’ve been interviewing for a more senior BA role—which has made me realise there are a few areas I really want to sharpen up. I joined this community to keep improving my craft, learn from others who’ve been there, and build more confidence in the practical side of BA work. Looking forward to learning, sharing, and hopefully getting a few “aha” moments along the way! — Bran

Hi Bran, in a very similar position to yourself, with 3 years of experience and really trying to cover my less strong suits and learn new skills. Let me know if you'd like to exchange and bounce some ideas around improving our craft.
Hello! —here to talk about moving beyond "requirements gathering."
I’ve spent the last half-decade realizing that even the most perfect functional tools and processes fail if you haven't nailed what the stakeholder actually needs at 2 AM. I'm looking to connect with anyone moving past "checking boxes" into actual problem-solving—and would love to hear your go-to resources for mapping out complex business models. Are there any specific methodologies you have found effective in navigating through business complexities or corporate ambiguity?

There a few things I've seen and done myself that have been useful. When eliciting requirements from stakeholders like you mentioned it's good to understand the why and pain points which feeds into the solution that takes shape. Since stakeholder can say they need X due to Y when in reality they mean they face A due to B and the solution becomes much clearer. I think you've thought of it yourself. Diagram and Process Mapping is a go to method to visualise flows and interactions. Can take shape of a user journey or something between two systems interacting. Two important important concept I think you might be interested diving into more. Design thinking and Systems Thinking. Lastly, to get elephant out of the room. AI as a tool to help navigate and explain those complexities. Small note, when it comes to corporate ambiguity. It's mainly as a result of no clear documentation of business or system processes. So it's important to investigate and unearth those (various techniques).
Introduction
Hello, my name is Nyeem. I think two of the biggest weaknesses and bottlenecks that I face are is the lack of confidence to preform at my role and lack of practical experience. So I am determined to change this and make a significant transformation in the next 2 years.

2025: Goal: Build a solid foundation in Business Analysis and Fill in Gaps of Knowledge and Development 1. Qualifications: BCS Diploma in Business Analysis 1. BA Theory/Knowledge building: BCS Business Analysis and BCS 123 Tools and Techniques for Business Analysis, BABOK v3, BABOK Agile Extension, BAI Platform and its modules. 1. Practical Application: Capitalize on projects at my current workplace to gain hands-on experience. Volunteer for a non-profit or small organization as a Business Analyst (if time permits). 1. Essential Technical Skills: Begin learning SQL and basic database concepts. Develop foundational knowledge in IT and Systems to bridge communication gaps with technical teams. Build up on data literacy 1. Desirable/Non-Essential Technical Skills: Beginner Data Analysis (SQL, PowerBI, Excel) 1. Increase Social Presence: Attend Networking Events and also build an online presence with content via YouTube/LinkedIn 2026 Honestly its a bit murky with what direction I want to go into. I have 3 options in front of me. 1. Focus on securing a senior role - Senior BA within 2026-2027 2. Look for a job at a more reputable company in a higher paying domain (healthcare, fintech, tech, energy, ect) 3. Job change into a hybridised role in either BA&DA work or BA&PM work where salaries scale higher in long term What is clear to me is the the following area that create value for me and allow me to showcase it. - Push for leadership responsibilities and experience - Take on bigger projects - Create a strong portfolio, CV, Cover letter in preparation for job hunting - Continue to keep up what I have started in 2025
