Hello Some time ago, I rewatched Hayao Miyazaki's film Nausicaa: The Valley of the Wind (1984). After watching it for the second time, I grew to appreciate even more how the visuals of nature and the design of the aircraft were done. The next day, I wanted to recreate one of the scenes in my own version. I tried to rely solely on my memory and a little imagination without having to look at any references. The first slide is a rough sketch of the scene I wanted to depict. The concept is the arrival of something big in a village in the valley from the perspective of a character. I used Procreate, this time using two types of brushes: pencil for sketching/line art and watercolour for colouring. The second slide is the finished line art. The third slide is the final result. I titled this illustration ‘Invasion.’ The rest is up to you to determine the story behind the scene in the illustration... lol. I really enjoy creating detailed shading on the rock cliffs; my hope is that the more detailed the shading on the cliffs, the clearer the volume and texture will appear. In colouring, the transparent nature of watercolour makes it easier to blend colours layer by layer. The last slide is a short timelapse video of the process from start to finish. My illustration is still not perfect; there are many things I need to continue learning and developing. I hope this illustration brings a smile to your day. Cheers!
