Hi Everyone, 👋 I came across this old blog post I made back in 2015 when I was still living in China. I read it through again and felt the message was still very relevant today. So here you are. I hope it helps someone else today. A dear Chinese friend asked me to explain 'Energy' to another friend last night. Wow. How do you sum that up in one easy sentence? Got lucky, though. Right at that moment, these two lovely ladies were being bothered by a guy a bit drunk, loud, argumentative, zero empathy, full of arrogance. Perfect teaching moment. The young lady I was talking to was going through some heavy relationship stuff. She'd come out hoping her friend could help her make sense of it all. I was just the bloke standing there who got asked to jump in. Here's what I said to her.... 'Energy' is something some of us can feel straight away. Others can't yet. You called your friend tonight because you trust her. She's quiet. She's warm. She listens. She won't judge you or rush you. She'll hold your hand and just be there. Her energy feels calm, and that's why you feel safe opening up to her about things that hurt. Right? She nodded. Yes. She really helps me. Then I nodded toward the loud one. Him? You've got your back turned to him. Your shoulders are curled in. Your head's down. You're trying to make yourself smaller, trying to get distance. He's loud, pushy, all up in your space. He's not thinking about you at all – just himself. You feel unsafe. Threatened. Right? Another nod. Yes. That's bad energy. Dark. Forceful. Wants to control. Can you feel the difference? She smiled. Nodded again. Yes. And that was it. From that moment, something opened up. She started talking, really talking. Her friend and I just listened and held the space. The loud guy got the message and drifted off. And at the end of the night, she went home lighter. Carrying a bit of love and good energy with her. That's all any of us can really do for each other, isn't it? Most 'dark energy' isn't evil, it's just unhealed. But you don't have to stick around and fix it. Your first job is always protecting your own field.
