There’s been a lot of interest lately in eloralintide, and for good reason. It’s a newer, more selective amylin receptor agonist with some very impressive Phase 2 results. But there’s another side of the conversation that doesn’t get talked about enough: What does the research actually cost? Because when you compare eloralintide with cagrilintide, the difference in both price per milligram and the amount of material used in clinical research starts to tell a pretty interesting story. First, Look at the Current Research-Market Pricing From what we're currently seeing in the research space: Cagrilintide 10 mg: roughly $50–$70 Eloralintide 10 mg: roughly $80–$120 So before you even get into the dose differences, eloralintide is already commonly carrying a premium. But the bigger difference comes when you look at how many milligrams have actually been used in published research. Cagrilintide Has Shown Activity at Relatively Small Doses In cagrilintide's Phase 2 dose-ranging trial, weekly doses included: • 0.3 mg • 0.6 mg • 1.2 mg • 2.4 mg • 4.5 mg At 26 weeks, average weight reduction was: 0.3 mg: 6.0% 0.6 mg: 6.8% 1.2 mg: 9.1% 2.4 mg: 9.7% 4.5 mg: 10.8% That means considerable activity was already being seen around 1.2–2.4 mg per week. Now think about what that means for a 10 mg vial. At the studied 1.2 mg/week level, 10 mg represents roughly 8.3 weeks worth of material. At 2.4 mg/week, it represents roughly 4.2 weeks worth of material. Now Look at Eloralintide The Phase 2 eloralintide trial investigated doses of: • 1 mg • 3 mg • 6 mg • 9 mg weekly At 48 weeks, average weight reduction was approximately: 1 mg: 9% 3 mg: 12% 6 mg: 18% 9 mg: 20% Those are extremely impressive results, particularly at 6 and 9 mg. But those results also require considerably more material. A 10 mg vial at: 3 mg/week = about 3.3 weeks 6 mg/week = about 1.7 weeks 9 mg/week = about 1.1 weeks And remember, that same 10 mg of eloralintide is also currently costing more in the research market.
