Governments should spend money on railways rather than roads. To what extent do you agree or disagree? There is an ongoing debate whether the state should invest funds on improving railways or roads. I think spending money on trains can provide certain benefits such as reducing traffic congestion and minimizing chances of accidents that happen on roads to improve public safety. Investing in railway helps reduce traffic congestion on the roads. As nowadays every household owns at least one car and when hundred of people commute on their private cars especially during peak hours, it causes traffic jams. Whereas, trains can be more convenient as compare to cars because they can transport thousands of passengers at the same time without getting stuck in traffic. Thus, government should allocate funds to upgrade railway tracks and bullet trains, so that individuals can rely on them to commute between workplace and home use them more often. This, in turn, will reduce traffic on the roads. Another reason the state should consider funding railways is safety. Every year hundred of accidents happen on road is due to driver's fatigue. For instance, if a person is coming home from 12 hour shift , it gets difficult to concentrate on road and cause an accident. While, trains are safer as compare to cars because rail drivers normally work for short hours which ensure they are fully aware while driving. Thus, if government spend funds on providing rest breaks and scheduling short shifts to the train drivers can ensure public safety and will minimize the proportion of accidents that happen on the road. This, in turn, will encourage individuals to use trains for travelling. In conclusion, I believe that government should spend public funds on upgrading railways in order to reduce traffic jams and to ensure public safety by decreasing chances of accidents.
