☕📖 THINK YOU CAN WRITE A STORY IN 10 MINUTES?
You don’t have to be an author to play Ten Minute Stories! Readers, supporters, fandom writers, beginners, and anyone with an imagination are welcome. Choose one round, set a timer for exactly 10 minutes, and write whatever comes to mind. Don’t edit it, don’t overthink it, and don’t worry about making it perfect. When the timer ends, stop writing and submit your response in the comments! Round 1: The first rule of customer service was never to breathe fire on the customer. Unfortunately, nobody had told me that before I accepted the job. “Thank you for calling Interdimensional Family Support,” I said, pinching the bridge of my snout. “My name is Dravik. How may I assist you today?” A woman screamed. I sighed. “Ma’am, screaming will not speed up your complaint.” “You’re a DRAGON!” “Yes.” “You’re a dragon answering the phone!” “Yes, ma’am.” “This is unbelievable!” “I assure you, ma’am, I am equally disappointed.” My shift had been going badly ever since the portal opened. Apparently, every twelve years, the family reunion of the Elders of Everwhere took place in our dimension. Cousins from alternate timelines, aunts who had been dead for three centuries, and at least one uncle who technically existed in four places at once had all arrived at the same enchanted banquet hall. And naturally, someone had lost the family reunion book. The book was old. Ancient, actually. Bound in green dragonhide and secured with a golden clasp. It also had one very inconvenient magical property. It rewrote itself whenever someone lied. I found it sitting beneath the potato salad. “Uncle Bartholomew,” Aunt Mavis said suspiciously, “did you steal the reunion book?” “Absolutely not.” The book fluttered open. Fresh ink appeared across the page. BARTHOLOMEW STOLE THE BOOK. The room went silent. Uncle Bartholomew pointed at it. “That book has always hated me.” Another line appeared. THIS IS ALSO A LIE. Someone snorted. Then everyone started talking at once. “I didn’t invite the trolls!” “She ate the last moon pie!” “He owes me three wishes!” “I was never married to a mermaid!” The book’s pages began flipping so rapidly they sounded like a hummingbird having a nervous breakdown. I slammed my claws onto the table. “EVERYBODY STOP LYING!” Silence. A small puff of smoke escaped my nostrils. “I said stop.” Uncle Bartholomew slowly raised his hand.
