How did you choose what to build first when you were just starting out
Hi everyone I am new here and still learning. I read the start here post and the post about feeling stuck at the start and that felt familiar. When you were at the very beginning how did you choose one small thing to build first. I would love to hear what helped you move from learning to actually building.

Pick the task people already pay you to do badly, not the idea you most want to learn. The first build is for shipping, not for range. What is the one chore friends keep asking you to fix?

Yes, and the finding was the useful part. What gets stuck is usually the structure, not the code: who the site is for, what it sells, what happens after signup. Shipping forces you to answer that in days instead of months. Learning first tends to delay the answers.
Looking for a U.S.-Based Business Partner 🇺🇸🤝🇩🇪
I'm a business owner and software engineer currently based in Germany. I'm looking to connect with someone in the U.S. who's serious about building something together and generating real income. Maybe you've got a great business idea but need a technical partner to bring it to life. Or maybe you don't have a specific idea yet, but you're motivated, open-minded, and ready to explore opportunities together. I'm open to both. I believe the right people working together can achieve far more than one person alone. Not looking for just another connection. I'm looking for someone reliable, ambitious, and willing to put in the effort to build something profitable and long-term. If this sounds like you, feel free to DM me. Let's talk and see what we can build together.

One thing worth settling before the partner search: what the business sells. A technical partner without a defined offer tends to become a build with no buyer. Also check the U.S. side on entity and tax early.
Do companies need funding before they can really afford developers in the US?
Something I’ve been curious about lately. From my experience working with different software projects, development can become one of the biggest costs for a growing company. But not every business has raised money. Some companies are bootstrapped. Some are already making revenue. Others are still trying to get the product into the market. So I wonder how this works in the US. Do most companies wait until they raise investment before building a proper development team? Or are profitable small businesses comfortable investing in developers from their own revenue? Curious to hear from people actually running companies there. How do you usually think about this?

Revenue isn't the whole test there. The real blocker is which one the spend maps to something already selling.
