Assalamu alaikum everyone. I guess I wanted to write something a little more personal here. Being anonymous makes it a bit easier for me to talk about these things honestly, so I’ll try to explain myself as sincerely as I can. Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about myself and the person I want to become. I feel like there’s a significant difference between the person I want to be and the person I am right now, and honestly, that difference has been bothering me quite a lot. Sometimes I genuinely feel like Oblomov from the book.🥲 I have things I want to do, plans I want to follow and goals I care about, but somehow I can spend an unreasonable amount of time just thinking about doing them instead of actually starting. It’s a little funny when I look at it from the outside, but it’s also something I seriously want to change. I know there are things I want to change about myself and my daily life, but knowing what I want and actually being able to do it consistently are very different things. There are days when I feel genuinely motivated and convinced that I’m going to change, and then there are days when I struggle to even start. Recently, I’ve been trying to spend less time on my phone, read more, study languages, exercise, and simply make better use of my time. I’m trying to stop constantly thinking about the person I want to become and actually take steps towards becoming him. I don’t expect myself to change completely overnight. I just want to make real progress, even if it’s slow. I joined this community because I’d like to have genuine conversations, meet people with different experiences and perspectives, and hopefully learn something from being here. I’m not really used to opening up about these things, so even writing this feels a little strange, but I think the anonymity makes it easier to be honest. :)
