5 contributions to Confident Hosts
Welcome to this week’s new hosts
A warm welcome to: @Linda Cortes @Simi Sohini @Michelle Zurek @Leandro Barriobero @Alissa McQuiston @Angela F @Atticus Orion Good to have you here. You have joined a community of part-time hosts running one to three properties around a full-time job. The focus here is not more bookings. It is a hosting operation that runs on fewer decisions, so the property stops feeling like a second job. You do not need to have anything figured out before you start. Open one resource, ask one question, fix one piece at a time. 👋 Introduce yourself below 🏠 Tell us about your property 💬 Name the one part of hosting that takes more of your time than it should 📚 Open Start Here in the Classroom. The first lesson is free and walks you through the Right Guest Framework, the three-step method everything in this community is built on The easiest way to get useful replies is to introduce yourself in three lines: Property: what and where (a two-bedroom condo near the ski hill, a lake cottage, a basement suite) Who books it:who you think your guests are, or “not sure yet” if that is the honest answer The thing that keeps coming back:the message, the turnover, the review, the question you answer every single week That gives everyone enough context to point you to the right resource or share what worked for them, and it gives you a starting point for the Right Guest Framework before you open a single lesson. Every day has a thread. Saturday is Stuck on Something Saturday for the problem that keeps returning. Sunday is System Sunday, where we fix one piece of the operation. Nothing to catch up on. New here? Drop your three lines below. I reply to every one.

Airbnb changed the house rules. Here's what moves on November 20.
If Airbnb's email about house rules landed in your inbox this week, you may have many different feelings about it, here's the short version. The new policy covers bookings made on or after November 20, and the new house rules editor is already live in your listing. Three things change for a part-time host. 1. Only what's written in your house rules section counts. A rule in a message, the guidebook or a sign on the door is no longer something a guest has to follow. 2. Checkout asks narrow to four requests: used dishes in the sink, used towels gathered, trash sorted into the indoor bins, the AC turned off. 3. In most cases you can't require a separate contract, keep a copy of a guest's ID, charge a fine, or make guests register in an app to get in unless you offer another way in. Bookings made before November 20 keep the rules that were on your listing when the guest booked. Nobody needs a message from you about the old ones. Which of the three touches your listing?

That’s a pretty significant change, especially the part about only written house rules counting.

@Stephanie Dion Sounds good, that makes sense. I’ll keep you posted when I’m ready to list.
The title test: does yours name a reason or just a mood?**
Yesterday we looked at how your guest mix shifts with the season. Today's question: does your listing title know that? Open your listing and read your current title like a stranger would. Is it naming something specific your fall guest is searching for, or is it just a mood? "Cozy modern getaway" describes a feeling. "Fireplace loft, 5-min walk to the night market" names a reason to book. This is Day 2 of what we cover in Listing Clarity Lab, and it works whether you're enrolled or just following along here. Even if you are not in the Listing Clarity Lab, participate in providing your property's listing title. Post your current title below, exactly as it reads today. Tomorrow we'll look at what makes one work.

I’m not hosting yet, but this is such a useful way to think about titles. I’m definitely taking notes now so when I do launch, the listing leads with a clear reason to book, not just a nice-sounding mood. 👏🏽
Quick Monday Question
Whether you're actively hosting or still in the planning stage — what's the one thing that feels most unclear or out of your control right now? Active hosts: what part of your operation still feels reactive? Planners: what's the question you can't seem to get a clear answer on?

I’m not hosting yet, but I’d love to soon. For me, the biggest question is what systems and processes I should have in place before I start so I’m not figuring everything out reactively later.
Start Here
If you only do one thing today, do this. Go to the Start Here category and introduce yourself. Tell us where your property is, or if you are still planning. Share one challenge you are facing right now. Keep it simple. One paragraph is enough. That is step one. Step two, after you post, comment on one other introduction and offer one helpful thought or question. That is it. You do not need to read everything. You do not need to understand the whole room. You just need to show up once. Momentum starts small.
