Property is a Permission, Not a Freedom Stop paying your property taxes. Find out how long you actually own your home. The answer is not what most people expect. Property tax is not a fee for services. It is a condition of continued possession. Stop paying it and the mechanism that follows is identical to a landlord evicting a tenant — except the landlord is the government and the lease is indefinite. Civil asset forfeiture adds another layer. Your possessions can be seized without a criminal conviction. The burden falls on you to prove your property is innocent. The Frame That Changes How You Read This A freedom is something you can do by right. A permission is something you can do until someone with power decides otherwise. When what you own exists at the mercy of institutional authority — when the condition of your continued possession is ongoing compliance with rules you did not design — you are a steward of property. Not an owner. This is not a political position. It applies whether the property tax rate goes up or down, whether the government is red or blue. The mechanism is the same.
