I've worked for myself most of my life. I've gone through the same many, many times. For me, it usually works out. I've had to scramble to figure it out, and sometimes had to put off one bill to pay another more pressing one. The times when I was out of options was when God stepped in, at the last minute, an opportunity showed up. It has happened so many times, I know it was divine. It's one thing that has kept my faith so strong. I don't rely on it happening, but I believe it will when I'm out of options, and it has proven to be so. One particular time that I've told so many about. I had started a transport business, been on the road for about a year, and was only seeing my wife and kids about every two weeks, and then only for 1 weekend. I was struggling with depression, so after I finished a trip and made it back home, I told my wife I was done and just quit. I had no other work lined up and only had enough money for another couple of weeks. She asked what I was going to do. My dad was a general contractor, and I had worked with him for years in the past. He was currently doing a lot of roofing jobs. I told her I was just going to work with him. It didn't pay much and was super hard work that I didn't like doing, but it would pay the bills. It became obvious right away that I wasn't going to be able to make enough to pay all the bills we had, plus food and other necessities. We had kids at home, but it looked like my wife was going to need to find a job and give up being a stay-at-home mom. We had one big payment for my Freightliner truck. I tried to get it sold, but I owed more than it was worth, and nobody wanted it for what I owed on it. Then, out of the blue, I get an email from an old customer of mine. For about 6 years before I started the transport business, I was a home theater installer and was very successful. In fact, I made the most money in my life doing that work. But I had left it because I was tired of commuting 3 hours every day, plus working 8-10 hours on top, and did it 6 or 7 days a week, and I wasn't going to church but still held my faith close. I also spent half of every day crawling around in attics, and doing that in the summer in Arizona is no fun.
