Who’s the Xmas present for Anyway? 🤔
As a watch guy. With a wife who loves watches. And 2 grown boys that are getting into watches. And a father who is learning watch repair as a hobby. What do you do for Christmas?? This year I thought I’d get each son a DIY watch Club watch. This way I get to build a watch for each of them. And they get a watch to add to their collection that their old man picked out and assembled. So basically I gave myself a gift of learning how to build a watch from a kit 🎉🎉. They get a watch their Dad thought they’d love and built it for them. I’m feeling like I gave myself a gift a little bit better than what I’m giving them😎🙏 This is going to be fun!! Here are the pictures of both kits. I bought one with the expanded tool kit the other standard as I didn’t know what they would need. I’ll post more as the project continues!!

A Thought I’ve Had While Browsing Everyone’s Watch Posts Here
I’ve been scrolling through the posts in this community for a bit, and something keeps standing out to me. Everyone here has a different taste in watches — some love divers, some love dress pieces, some are into affordable beaters, others go deep into movements and complications — but the one thing we all seem to share is the story behind why a watch matters to us. It made me realize something: For most watch lovers, the piece itself is only half the reason. The meaning is the other half. Sometimes it’s the first watch you bought with your own money. Sometimes it’s the piece that marks a milestone. Sometimes it's the one that made you fall in love with the hobby in the first place. I’m curious about something, and I’d genuinely like to hear from the people here: What’s the watch that means the most to you — not the most expensive, not the rarest — just the one that carries a story? Share it if you’re open to it. I feel like we’d get some great conversations going.

As a young teenager we sold watches in our family general store. Mostly Timex and Westclox pocket watches. I was the one who would always set the times and show the adults how digital watches worked ( this was mid 1970’s) and I replaced batteries and changed bands. I enjoyed it but forgot all about it until I randomly started watching Wristwatch Revival and coming to this community. As for modern times I found an Invicta automatic pro diver and could not believe you could buy an automatic watch for $59! That really reignited the spark for mechanical watch interest.
My “Never EVER Buy” List Of WORST Watches

@Warren Money I have 3 Invicta. I couldn’t pass up a pro diver with an automatic movement for $59. I got the other 2 because $100 got free shipping. Shopping the Invicta site is like hunting. You have to be patient but ready to pull the trigger when you see the price drop. I think it’s fun watching the prices go up and down like a yoyo
A Very Big Addition to the Collection
This Thanksgiving holiday, I visited my mom, and during my time with her she gave me something incredibly meaningful—my stepdad’s old watch. He passed a few years ago, and life just hasn’t been the same without him. He wore this watch everywhere, and you can see his story in every scratch and mark. I can’t put into words how grateful and excited I am to receive this. I’ll wear it proudly, just as he did.

Love a sentimental timepiece with a story. It’s like a time capsule of sorts.
