Why Anxious People Still Get Dysregulated in Safe Relationships
A lot of people assume that once you meet a secure, consistent partner, your anxiety should disappear. But that’s not how the nervous system works. If you grew up with: - unpredictability - emotional inconsistency - criticism - abandonment - chaos - or caretaking adults …your body learned to stay on alert. So even in a healthy relationship, you might still experience: - overthinking - fear of losing them - checking for tone changes - needing reassurance - interpreting neutrality as distance - feeling “activated” even when nothing is wrong This doesn’t mean the relationship is unsafe. It means your body is still learning what safety feels like. A secure partner can help regulate you — but they can’t heal the wounds that created the dysregulation. That part is your work. Healthy relationships don’t erase your past. They give you the environment to retrain your nervous system.

One of the keys to a healthy relationship is consistency as it builds trust and safety.

This weekend will be a mix of reflection, connection, and quiet productivity. I’m planning to attend a Bible study Saturday morning at 9:30, followed by a memorial service for a neighbor we lost last month — a meaningful time to honor and remember them. Sunday will start with some peaceful gardening before transitioning into seeing a few clients later in the day. A simple weekend, but one grounded in purpose and balance.

I’m really glad you’re here. If you’ve ever felt yourself getting attached quickly, choosing avoidant men, or stuck in patterns you can’t seem to break, you’re not alone — and nothing about that makes you “too much” or “not enough.” I learned about attachment styles early on when I was getting my psych degree, but understanding the theory didn’t stop me from living the patterns myself. It wasn’t until I started doing deeper therapeutic work — on myself and with clients — that things finally made sense. The nervous system, the fears, the old wounds, the way we bond… it all connects. This space is for women who want clarity, compassion, and real change. We’ll explore attachment patterns, the anxious–avoidant cycle, emotional regulation, self‑worth, boundaries, and what it actually takes to move toward a secure, steady connection. What brought you here today — and what are you hoping to understand or change?

As a child, I was deeply attached to my mother, and looking back, I realize the bond was very strong for both of us. When I experienced my first love, that attachment shifted from my mother to my boyfriend. I became very emotionally dependent and clingy in the relationship.
