National Poetry Month – Day 10
Theme: Emotional Labor Some people don’t just feel their own emotions. They carry rooms. They manage moods. They translate tension. Today we explore the work that happens beneath the surface. ⸻ Prompt 1 – Who Taught You to Carry That Write a poem about where your emotional labor started. Not just that you do it, but who or what trained you to. Was it family, survival, culture, trauma, responsibility, or expectation? ⸻ Prompt 2 – Emotional Translator Write a poem about interpreting what people don’t say. Reading tone, body language, silence, energy shifts. Explore what it means to understand people before they understand themselves. ⸻ Prompt 3 – The Smile That Did Overtime Write a poem about performing emotions that weren’t real. The laugh that covered tension. The calm that hid chaos. The version of you that made others comfortable while you carried something else.

National Poetry Month – Day 8
Theme: The Weight of Loyalty Loyalty is often praised, but rarely questioned. We’re taught to stay, to ride it out, to hold on—but not always taught when to let go. Sometimes loyalty builds us. Sometimes it drains us. Today we explore what loyalty costs, what it requires, and when it turns inward. ⸻ Prompt 1 – Loyalty Has an Expiration Date Write a poem about a time loyalty lasted longer than it should have. A moment where staying felt like commitment, but was actually costing you something. ⸻ Prompt 2 – Loyalty vs Reliability Write a poem about the difference between people who say they’re loyal and people who consistently show up. Explore the gap between words and actions. ⸻ Prompt 3 – Self Loyalty Write a poem about choosing yourself when you once chose others first. What did it take for you to finally put yourself first?

The Equation Loyalty, the ring of it, royal bonds... Means nothing if the declaration isn't equal... The demand and command means we both win... Yet, racist white America forgot those facts, when it comes to Black folks.. Today, I am not explaining myself... Lazy people need but use Google for a quick history lesson... Yet, as soon as, trouble's created by the systems and syncopaths you voted for... Looking for Black faces and bodies as martyrs for America's folly.. Desire to march our talents at the Olympics and sporting events... The Equation, transactional and unbalanced... While being condescending to our culture... The unmitigated gaul to open your pie wholes with...comments like.... Shut up and play or dribble... Entertainment doesn't have an opinion.. You're paid to be seen and not heard... The Equation... now you're dying and we're not interested in coming to march, protest or save you... Karma is a whole system of retribution... The price of consequences when you make a decision to make loyalty one sided... Slowly learning what it like to be othered,, marginalized like Black Folks in America... Trickster-Text Thursday Linguistic Disturbance Post one to five line where language bends, slips, or misbehaves. Short. Witty. Unpolished. Topic: Super Powers Here’s My Offering: Nobody told me growing up is highly not recommended.. When I was young aging looked like fun trapped in freedom.. Now I understand its just heartbreak, bills and a lot of unanswered prayers... I should've listen to mom GhoZT STorieZ 👻 #luxintenebris

The Disturbance Tension in the glass... Brown liquor hitting the tongue... Opening the gates to quarrel because.. I love the toxic me with liquid courage... Menacing, threatening beating my chest... Riled up getting in that PTSD... Got short man syndrome, little napoleon... The Disturbance..... Got the wife and kids walking on pins and needles... Mad, for no reason...need mental help... Too afraid as a Black Man to reach out... Until an almost fateful day... Cornered her in the kitchen after having some drinks.. Exclaimed, I would knock the wife out... She looked me in my eyes...stern, voice low and commanding... Sharp knife in her hand... I will de-gut you where you stand... The new Disturbance, brought me to my senses... Had to save my life and back down.. The realization, my stupid azz needed to take a nap... Stop bringing my mouth to a knife fight, while a woman is in the kitchen cooking... AFTERTONGUE™ WORD DROP #025: PROOFLEFT ✦
PROOFLEFT /ˈprufˌlɛft/ (adj.) Definition Proofleft describes a record that continues speaking after the moment has passed. Impact held in what remains. — Soulprint Something of you stayed. If this word resonates with you, you’re welcome to respond below with • a moment that left a lasting imprint • a way your presence shaped something beyond you • or simply ✦ if this named something familiar This space knows how to hold it.

Lasting Imprints Your souls have left this earthly realm... The Lasting Imprints on my heart remains Stains in my memory like curry on fingers... Still licking my lips like the last steak dinner we shared... The grits and gravy...topped off with puff-puff, pass-pass...that gas... Impacts my whole being, the bittersweet moments... Times like these hearing your voices...in my mind... Us laughing, the phone conversations... Right now, I just miss all of you... Just know I deeply feel your.... Lasting Imprints ... Theme: Friendship Code Friendship comes with its own language. Unspoken expectations, quiet understandings, and invisible lines we don’t realize exist until they’re crossed. Some friendships grow, some shift, some end—but all of them teach us something about connection. Today we explore the rules we follow, the roles we play, and what happens when those codes are broken. ⸻ Prompt 1 – Friends and Lovers: Should Lines Ever Cross Write a poem about the blurred lines between friendship and romance. Can crossing that line strengthen a bond or risk losing it altogether? Explore the tension, the curiosity, or the consequences. ⸻ Prompt 2 – I’m The Friend That… Write a poem about the role you play in your friendships. The one who listens, the one who disappears, the one who holds it together, the one who tells the truth. Be honest. ⸻ Prompt 3 – Rules of Engagement Write a poem about the unspoken agreements in friendship. What’s expected, what’s tolerated, and what happens when those rules are broken?

The Rules We Friends, we cool...but please know and respect.... The Rules...the terms of Engagement... Friendships are forever, the bonds closer than romantic relationships... Know this commands loyalty, respect and conversations... Inside jokes and times we leave the Wives and Lovers at home... We spend time doing your honey do list and mine...that how we roll...how we make time.. You know if you stuck, I am coming, sending money...got you... You sick, in the hospital...got to support you.. Need to take care of a threat... Got the plastic and the shovel.... We discussed the details... You're Family, closer than blood... The Rules....for the ones that are true Friends...
