News Article on OpenAI
Saw this article today and thought I’d share. Competition isn’t a bad thing as new approaches are learned and can be adopted. Open AI learned this from Deepseek. https://www.businessinsider.com/sam-altman-openai-ai-approaches-deepseek-meta-open-source-2025-1?utm_source=join1440&utm_medium=email&utm_placement=newsletter&user_id=66efdd8536f14e60dd6fdd68
New Arms Race?
I'm curious about peoples' thoughts on the recent news of not only Deepseek, but also Alibaba's new model: https://www.reuters.com/technology/artificial-intelligence/alibaba-releases-ai-model-it-claims-surpasses-deepseek-v3-2025-01-29/ it seems everyone is racing to update their AI models. Is this a good thing? Do you think companies developing AI could be forsaking moral and ethical decisions in order to create the latest/greatest tool? For some perspective on moral/ethical issues please see: https://annenberg.usc.edu/research/center-public-relations/usc-annenberg-relevance-report/ethical-dilemmas-ai

@Jacqueline Jackson my apologies, perhaps that was a poor choice of words in my title, perhaps I should have used “space race” instead. As I was referring to countries competing to develop AI at a faster rate,
DeepSeek FAQ
As a novice in the world of software and AI, I find myself reading a lot to try and make sense of things. Deepseek has made the news recently with discussions on how cheap it was to train and its quality. I found this rather extensive article that explains things in pretty good detail: https://stratechery.com/2025/deepseek-faq/?utm_source=tldrnewsletter
More on hallucinations
As luck would have it, I was watching a news show and the subject came up about AI hallucinations and the medical industry. I’m not sure why I hadn’t thought of the impact AI was having on medical professionals, but they too are using AI. https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC10552880/

@Mario Tuta thanks for the breakdown on what other countries are doing. I had no idea there was that large a disparity between them. I’d be curious to see if this causes other countries to rethink their approach to AI.
