"DYAD" anyone tried this free open source app builder?
I recently discovered Dyad, an open-source AI app builder that works completely on your local machine – and I think it’s worth a discussion here. Dyad is basically a free, private alternative to tools like Lovable, V0, or Bolt, but instead of running in the cloud it runs directly on Windows or macOS. You don’t need an account, you just download it and start building. It’s released under the Apache 2.0 license, so it’s fully open source. What makes Dyad interesting is that you can connect your own API keys from providers like OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, or OpenRouter. That means no vendor lock-in, and you can even use completely free models such as Alibaba’s Qwen-3 Coder. With just a few prompts, Dyad can generate a working to-do list app, a landing page, or even more complex projects – and you still have full access to the code if you want to tweak it. The free version already lets you create unlimited apps with no restrictions, while there’s also a Pro plan for $30/month with additional features. But for most use cases, the free version seems more than enough. I see a lot of potential here for non-coders who want to build MVPs or internal tools, as well as for developers who just want to prototype faster in a private environment. 🔹 Have you tried Dyad yet? 🔹 Do you see it as a real alternative to Lovable or other cloud-based builders? 🔹 What kind of apps would you experiment with first? Curious to hear your thoughts and experiences!
