A hard one for the community, because most of us have felt it.
You are at a signing table and something feels off. The signer seems unsure, someone else is doing all the talking, or you get the sense that this may not be fully their choice. Two questions for the community: Have you ever paused or stopped a signing because the signer did not seem aware, willing, or able? What did you notice, and how did you handle it without making the room tense? What is your go to move when a family member is answering for the signer? How do you create a moment to speak directly with the signer? Share your experience below. These are the moments nobody really trains you for, so let’s train each other.
What's one habit that made you a better signing agent?
It doesn't have to be something big. Maybe you started: ✅ Reviewing the package before leaving home. ✅ Confirming IDs during your reminder call. ✅ Double-checking every notarization before leaving the table. ✅ Leaving extra time between appointments. ✅ Reading the instructions before printing. Sometimes the smallest habits make the biggest difference in reducing mistakes and creating a smoother signing experience. 💬 What's one habit you've developed that has improved your signings? Share it below, you might help another notary improve theirs too.
RON
I’m certified by the state to issue RON. When I receive requests for RON from signing services, do I need to use the platform I’m affiliated with, or would they prefer me to use their preferred platform?

Hi Vanessa. Most of the time, the title company will require you to use their preferred RON platform. This is often because their lenders, title companies, or internal processes are integrated with a specific platform. If the instructions don't specify which platform to use, the best practice is to ask before the appointment.
🖨️ Don't let your printer become the reason for a complain.
We recently received feedback from a client that said: "It seems that your printer was very low on toner and many docs are not clear at all." It's an easy thing to overlook, especially when you're printing large loan packages back-to-back. But faded or unclear documents can create unnecessary delays. Before heading to a signing, take a quick look at your printed package. ✅ Is the text sharp and readable? ✅ Are barcodes and QR codes clear? ✅ Is it time to replace your toner or drum? Your printer is just as important as your stamp. Keeping it in good condition is part of delivering a professional signing experience.

Semi retired independent Notary Public and Certified Loan Signing agent.
In the last 2 years I have devoted my self 100% to my new career, even though I have been licensed for 6. I have joined a number of signing agencies, but alas only able to secure 1 or 2 a week. Having spoken to several Notaries in my area I find that my issue is shared with others. Even with some 25 years of financial and insurance production, your guidance in this matter would be appreciated not only by me but also others. Thank you Michael Valanos

Thank you for sharing your experience, Michael. I know many notaries can relate to what you're describing. The truth is that building a consistent signing business takes time. Joining signing services is a great first step, but it's also important to continue marketing yourself, building relationships with title companies, maintaining strong profiles on the platforms you're registered with, and providing excellent service on every assignment. Every signing is an opportunity to earn repeat business. Stay consistent, keep learning, and don't get discouraged. I hope this community can help you continue growing your business. We're glad you're here! 💙
