Communication
I know my dog is barking at nothing important. It's just a wallaby at the bird bath. It's after midnight and I'm tired, but I never correct my dogs for alert barking. Ever. I acknowledge them and let them know they are heard, and then together we settle. I never want my dogs to feel like they cannot express themselves and I want them to know that they can ask for direction from me, be it a cue to take action, to be calm or to hand the issue over for me to handle on their behalf. Plus lately there have been times when it wasn't just a wallaby, so I'd rather know either way. Living this way with my dogs I've never had issues with nuisance barking. Its just communication after all .... How do you respond to your dog? Do you have a conversation, or just ask them to shush?

I tend to acknowledge them, thank them, investigate what it is they're barking at, and then give feedback about whether the barking was warranted or not, from my perspective. Depending on how intense the barking is, I may investigate first, before deciding what response to give them. I have, though, had dogs with a hair trigger bark and not much discernment about how bark-worthy a stimulus actually is, so I definitely give 'Enough!' feedback sometimes too. Especially if they've got themselves very aroused and need help to interrupt themselves, calm down somewhat, and make a clearer-minded assessment of the situation.
Taking every scrap...
Koko and I are working hard at Sundaying - lying in the sun, reading the second book in a series from an author I only recently discovered. I'm 13 pages in when this sentence made me pause and PAWS... "When her husband died, five years back, she learned the skill of taking every scrap of happiness where she could find it." I lay the book down on my chest and took some moments to focus on the feel of Koko's warmth on my legs, feel her sigh and shift a little, took a slow deep breath myself, softened internally, and was grateful for her presence. I took that morsel of happiness and made it bigger by being present with it. A very PAWS moment. ✨

Magical Sunday picnic
I love being in untamed, wild nature. So today we had a little cacao ceremony, a drum journey and meditation outside in the bush. I’m beyond blessed this is 5min from my house. Pax wanted a bit more action but he practiced sitting still while I meditated and just enjoyed the raw beauty of this place . He also joined the drum with his own vocals πŸ€£πŸ™ πŸ’›
