Burnout in this field is real. But I have started to think we blame the wrong thing. Most of the time it is not the kids. It is not even the hours. It is being unsupported while carrying hard cases alone. The BCBAs I know who lasted did not have easier caseloads. They had someone who checked on them. A supervisor who made it safe to say I am struggling. Good supervision is not a luxury. It is the thing that keeps people in the field.
