While We Wait
I’ve been thinking about something lately that I’m not sure I have an answer to. How do we show up for someone we love while they’re waiting? Waiting on test results. A diagnosis. A decision. An answer that could change things. Because when you love someone, you’re waiting too. You’re concerned. You think about them. You want to check in and ask if they’ve heard anything. You want to help. And, if we’re being honest, part of you probably wants reassurance too. But here’s where I think it gets tricky… How do we let someone know, “I’m here. I care. I haven’t forgotten what you’re going through,” without making them responsible for managing our worry too? I don’t want silence to feel like I don’t care. But I also don’t want my concern to become one more thing they have to carry. And sometimes the waiting looks different. Sometimes we’re waiting for news. Sometimes we’re waiting for someone else to make a decision. And sometimes we’re waiting because we’ve already done everything that’s ours to do for the moment. That last kind might be the hardest. Maybe sometimes showing up isn’t fixing anything or even knowing what to say. Maybe it’s simply making sure someone knows they don’t have to sit in the uncertainty alone. I don’t have this one figured out, so I’d genuinely love to hear from you: When you’ve been the person waiting, what made you feel supported? And what do you wish people had done differently?

Wow. This is such a good topic, Catina. And like you said, I don’t know that I have an answer. I’ve been fortunate that I haven’t really been the one waiting for news or a diagnosis, at least not for a long period of time. There was one time when I was waiting, and I remember family calling, special prayers being said and just feeling supported because people reached out. Lately, though, I feel like we’re at a stage of life where there’s a lot more waiting. Maybe not always for us personally, but for the people we love. And I find myself worrying about how to be there for them. Because you’re right. We’re waiting too. We’re worried too. And sometimes I think that makes us quieter because we don’t know what to say or we don’t want to add to what they’re already carrying. I never want someone I love to mistake my quiet for absence. I want them to know I’m right there, waiting with them, even when I don’t have the right words or actions. When you think of them, reach out, in that moment. Check on them. Remind them they aren’t alone.

@Catina Dachille I love the way these posts are making me rethink and be reminded.❤️
🔄 Change the Narrative
Is there something you’re carrying around that could use another perspective? Maybe it’s a situation you feel stuck in, a conversation you’re avoiding, a decision you keep second-guessing, or simply a story you’ve been telling yourself that may need a different ending. You are always welcome to message me privately. You don’t have to have the perfect question, and you don’t even have to be looking for advice. Sometimes you just need a different perspective, a better question, or a place to say, “Here’s what’s going on…what am I not seeing?” If it feels like something that could help others too, I may bring the topic into the community so we can talk it through together. If I do, I will keep your identity private and remove identifying details. No pressure to ever submit anything. I just want you to know this door is always open. Sometimes changing the narrative starts with simply being willing to look at it another way. 💙

I’m finally getting to my emails, Catina, so I’m late responding. I think the hardest thing right now is with my sister. She’s going through something and pulling away. We are very close; we talk several times a week. She’s not just my sister but my best friend. But now she doesn’t want to talk. Her husband is being pretty vocal about us (my very big, nosey family) all keeping our distance. So whatever is happening it’s effecting her, them, and her adult kids. Im close with my nephews so they’ve called to talk but they also aren’t sure what is causing all of the issues. Her mental health is taking a huge hit, in a scary way, and I don’t know how to help. I know all that sounds so vague. I just dont have more Info to share. I’d love another opinion on how to help. Or maybe stepping back is the best way to help?? Love your perspective and your gift with words. ❤️

@Catina Dachille Thank you for your kind words. You gave me a lot to think about. I think I will send her a hand written note this week. And send her some “no response needed” texts. Just to remind her how much I love her. I need to have patience. Remind her I’m here and she’s loved.
What Are You Reading… How Many at Once… and Will You Actually Finish? 😂
Am I the only person who reads 4 books at the same time… and apparently stores each one in a different part of the house? 🤦🏽‍♀️ It took me about 10 minutes to round these up. One was in my car. One was in the kitchen. One was by my desk. One was on the kitchen table. Honestly, I’m a little surprised there wasn’t one in my purse. But if you’re looking for something to read, these are all here for very different reasons: • You Speak — Finished this one. And apparently liked it enough to bring it into family dinner, because I distinctly remember stopping mid-conversation the other night to read everyone a section. 😂 • Choosing Easy World — Recommended by my friend/Reiki Master @Tyanne Jennings . I’m almost finished, although “finished” is relative because I’ve been jumping around based on the table of contents instead of reading it front to back. Highly recommend that approach, btw. • Passion-Driven Education — This one is pure curiosity for me. [Respectfully] I personally think our education system is an outdated institution, so I wanted to hear someone else’s thoughts on what education could look like if we started with a child’s interests instead of the system. • Maybe It’s Your Medications — The $32 Kinko’s impulse purchase. 😂 I saw it, was curious, bought it. Sometimes there really is no deeper story. So now I need to know… 🙋🏽‍♀️ Are you a one-book-at-a-time person, or do you also have a small library currently scattered throughout your home, vehicle and possibly handbag?

Me too! Always have an audio book going. Sometimes two and at the same time I’m read at least one book. I love fiction. Non fiction probably is better for me and I’d learn more, but a nice escape is why I usually dont go that route. I’m listening to the 5th book in the Dongeon Crawler Carl series. Not my norm but I love it. This series is a big commitment. 8 books with this one being 24 hours long. I tend to get a little ADHD and throw in something in between. About to start The Woman in Cabin 10 on audio because my daughter loved it and rarely recommends books to me. I like to see what interests her. I usually end up likening them. Just finished Mariana Zapata’s slow burn Kulti. Not bad. A quick read that let me get lost when I needed to avoid work. About to start Every Version of You by Natalie Messier. No clue about what it’s about but more than heard about it from Book Tok.
