Puffins!
Hey everyone! Iโ€™d love some feedback on a puffin reel Iโ€™ve been editing! Itโ€™s very rough so Iโ€™m happy to make some big changes! I also need a hook :) ๐Ÿง (Iโ€™ve tried to upload this 3 times now so sorry if itโ€™s a repeat)

Wow. Those shots are absolutely amazing. Letโ€™s try to push this for as many views as possible. Could also be worth turning this into a small series, different reels, different ideas, different lengths. Iโ€™m guessing you have quite a bit of footage? Do you have more clips shot on your phone? Anything with you in frame? If not, is the intro longer than how itโ€™s currently cut? I think the music should really match their energy. Something beautiful, but also a bit quirky, cute, and playful. I often use ChatGPT to describe the mood and get song suggestions. Could also be worth checking what TikTok or Instagram suggest when you upload, sometimes that algorithm surprisingly delivers. For the hook, Iโ€™d lean into the idea of showcasing how surprising and impressive UK wildlife actually is, highlighting that these kinds of animals exist here. Or what kind of season this is. From what I understand they have just landed back in the uk to breed right? Like something that conveys look what birds have landed on our shores again. Most people donโ€™t know that: where they are, are they there all year, what behaviour are we seeing, how rare are they, are they penguins, etc? Simple stuff. Put yourself in the shoes of someone who doesnโ€™t know about birds. Some education about that might be nice and valuable.

Ok, great, looking forward to it! Feel free to bring some shots to the call (you'll be able to share your screen) so we can brainstorm a little together there.
๐Ÿง  From Views to Opportunities - The Real Social Media Game | Call #12
We use social media as a tool to reach a specific end goal. Whether thatโ€™s a job at a production house or - as in my case - securing a life working in the field with wildlife, your content should be your resume. ๐Ÿ’กIโ€™m a firm believer that keeping your objectives front-of-mind increases your chances of success. Call it manifestation or visualization; I call it When you know what you want, you recognize opportunities the moment they arise. This mindset should dictate your creative process. During our last call, I shared my dream work currently happening in Papua. I would like you to think hard about your "Big Dream." Once you define it, every post will naturally steer your ship toward that destination.๐Ÿšข Take this example: Youโ€™re a wildlife cameraman/-woman posting a reel of Birds of Paradise and canโ€™t decide on a visible line of the description [๐˜๐˜“]. 1. "This is why they are called Birds of Paradise." 2. "This is why I became a wildlife cameraman/-woman." Both good, both building anticipation, but only the second communicates clearly that you are a professional camera operator and might be picked up by potential recruiters. These small subtleties, accumulated over time, are what transform a hobbyist into a pro. 2026 Whitley Awards Ceremony - Next Week
Iโ€™ll be at the Whitley Awards at the Royal Geographical Society in London next week on the 29th. Itโ€™s a great opportunity to network. The focus is more on conservation, but it could still be very relevant for some of you. Last year, I met prominent wildlife filmmakers like Nick Gates and Alastair Fothergill from Silverback Films, the team behind Our Planet, along with many other people across both the conservation and wildlife filmmaking space. Getting out there and building real, in-person connections is still one of the most effective ways to move forward.๐Ÿ‹๏ธโ€โ™€๏ธ

KOALA SH!T
I recently learned about this Pap stuff from my junior and knew i had to cover on it,,, however i felt for this one i think the animations were a tad bit too fast๐Ÿ˜ญ tried my best to visualise the easiest way to explain so here it is๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ i also forgot to say the word "milk" hence why i had to put in that starred text AAAA I took Matthias' advice and put in more text at the centre without blocking my face too!๐Ÿ™ƒ Also yea there are minor lags in the video AND I HAV NO IDEA WHY, I'll just trim them out before posting it i suppose๐Ÿ˜ญ capcut is annoying at times

Hey Sonya, awesome video! That koala pap is so interesting indeed, really social media primed. Iโ€™ll experiment with replying a bit quicker and more briefly to your videos, let me know if that works better for you. โ€ข Iโ€™d cut straight to โ€œimagineโ€ฆโ€ earlier. Thatโ€™s a strong hook moment. โ€ข I love the edits, really clean and clear. Youโ€™ve got your own style, I havenโ€™t really seen it before. It feels unique. Keep that up. โ€ข That last sentence was a bit hard to follow because youโ€™re speaking quite fast. You can make this clearer by using slightly longer captions. Think 2 to 4 words that stay on screen longer instead of single words that disappear too quickly. โ€ข In general, Iโ€™m not a proponent of adding text that doesnโ€™t match what youโ€™re saying. In this case, for example, I couldnโ€™t read/ didnโ€™t really process โ€œshit talker shit eaterโ€ unless I paused the video. โ€ข I would lower some of the SFX slightly, although theyโ€™re really good. For example the Minecraft eating sound. Just a bit less loud so your voice stays fully understandable and the explanation comes through clearly. โ€ข Some moments the wind makes you less understandable. I fix this with the super simple and free Adobe Podcast. Perhaps somethinh you could give a try.. โ€ข for the hook Iโ€™d just use the โ€œ๐Ÿ’ฉโ€ emoji instead of the โ€œsh*t word. โ€ข I love Ze Frankโ€™s koala video where, if Iโ€™m not mistaking, he actually shows pap. I would genuinely include a clear picture of the pap. Itโ€™s weird, memorable, and very social media friendly! https://www.instagram.com/reel/C9e1JrWOWih/?igsh=MXZ3bmlpZDk1NHdhYw==
