Reading tarot and oracle cards as living metaphors
You do not need years of study to work meaningfully with tarot or oracle cards. A practical approach is to treat every card as a living metaphor rather than a fixed symbol. This shifts the focus from memorizing definitions to engaging with the card as an active presence that reflects something happening in your inner or outer life. 1. See the card as a character or force Imagine the card as a figure with a role, a voice, and a purpose. Whether it is a person, an animal, an object, or an abstract image, treat it as something that is doing something rather than something that simply exists. This immediately brings the card to life and makes interpretation intuitive. 2. Identify the core action Ask yourself what the card is doing. Not what it means in a book, but what is visibly happening. A figure stands, waits, builds, breaks, protects, observes, or moves. A landscape expands, contracts, opens, or blocks. The action is the metaphor. It tells you what kind of movement or dynamic is present in your situation. 3. Translate the action into a human experience Once you see the action, connect it to a universal human process. Waiting becomes patience or hesitation. Building becomes commitment or effort. Breaking becomes release or disruption. This translation is the bridge between the image and your life. 4. Let context shape the nuance The same metaphor can shift depending on the question or situation. A protective figure can represent healthy boundaries in one reading and rigidity in another. You do not need to memorize variations. The context naturally adjusts the meaning. 5. Keep the interpretation short and functional A living metaphor does not require long analysis. One or two sentences are enough. Describe the action and the human process it reflects. This keeps the reading clear, direct, and adaptable. 6. Trust immediate associations Your first impression is often the most accurate because it arises from your intuitive pattern recognition. When you treat the card as a living metaphor, your mind automatically connects it to relevant experiences without needing formal study.

@Jeff Peden There's so much material out there in the world, I couldn't possibly keep up with it all. I do know that, when the US intelligence services wanted to develop a psychic spying program to compete with the Soviets, they hired two physicists. Does that count?

@Jeff Peden I find that a lot of people have no one to talk about the woo with. When you find your tribe, grab ‘em and hold on!
Sound and Vision
Yes, "sound and vision" is a nod to the David Bowie song with the lyric - " I will sit right down. Waiting for the gift of sound and vision. And I will sing, waiting for the gift of sound and vision" What about you my friends and community? When you sit to study or ground yourself or do a reading what sounds do you include? This isn't a question that I have the answer too, its one I was curious about. Since spirituality comes with frequency and rhyming spells, singing bowls and bells, chants and singing, there has long been music as part of the spiritual connection. I was wondering what people in the group connected with when they sit down. Anyone have favorite artists, music styles, musical routines that they use as they prepare themselves for the day or for a reading? Currently I will stir my largest singing bowl until it vibrates strongly, light incense, and then pause to ground myself. In the past i have played instrumental "zen" music, or instrumenals from Enya and similar artists. What about you? What do you use when you, like David Bowie, sit right down waiting for the gift of sound and vision Thats right, I did just put you on the same level as the rock legend David Bowie, because everyone in this community is a rock star 👨‍🎤🌟

Similar to @Rachael Crawford, I prefer silence, sometimes even going so far as to hear foam earplgugs or noise-cancelling headphones. Much easier to tune into my inner world that way. That said, life doesn't always allow for silence, so I also take opportunities to practice in all sorts of environments, from bars to libraries to airports. My goal is to be able to perform well under any conditions. Well, any conditions within reason.

I don't think there is a clear, single answer. The winner in that scenario would be context-specific. At one point in my life, I was so conflict-avoidant, it was almost a phobia. In that case, The Fool would be the one. "No harm done, fresh start, la-dee-da!" Older now, with fewer forks to give, I'd go with The Tower. Crash it all and set the wreckage on fire. Scorched earth, baby! The equivalent of pulling that subtle knife out of my back and then twisting it, publicly, into the false friend. I'm too old to worry about burning bridges. That's awfully dramatic language, and everyone's preferences will vary. Which one I recommend to my friend will depend on where they are in their life, what their temperament is, and what the real risks for one option vs. the other might be.
Sunday Selfies: Not super woo..
So, I'm not super woo. Now don't get me wrong, I love me some woo! I'm just bad at the super woo woo side of woo 😂. How many time can I say woo? I mean, who doesn't love some moon magick? But today has been a day of stopping and taking a time out and asking what matters. Slowing down. Why do I feel so adrift? Is it the weather, the full moon coming up, Mercury in the microwave again? 6 of Cups. This card is a bit different in this deck. I'm reading this today as what emotions are rooted so deeply that they are holding me in place and not allowing me to move forward?

Oof, I'll be at a disadvantage with the TV references, but hopefully not fully hobbled. (I turned off my TV in 2005 during a relocation. Never bothered to hook it back up except as a monitor.) I got the Fight Club reference. What else did I miss? Is "Let's SPREAD UM'!" another reference?
