Build Your Senior Gig Career Livestream TOMORROW at 7pm!
Join us for a special livestream tomorrow evening with featured guest Aaron Turner! Aaron has just started doing gigs at senior communities. This livestream I wanted to get his voice on how to begin scheduling shows, challenges he is facing, and perhaps answer a few of your questions on building a senior gig career. Looking forward to seeing you there! Also, if you have had trouble using your microphone or camera on Skool calls in the past, I found this video that can be helpful in troubleshooting this problem. I plan on being there. thanks for the invite.
Do you take requests?
A resident requested a song, Here Comes the Sun, and I was excited because I knew it well and I played it and made him happy. Then, another resident requested a song. Again, I was excited because I knew it sorta well and played it and made him happy..Good right? Well..... Pretty soon , EVERYBODY started shouting out songs for me to play and the although I KINDA knew SOME of the requests, my show became a chaos of songs that I knew but I didn't know THAT well and instead of sticking with my prepared song list I got carried away trying to make everyone happy. Don't get carried away trying to please everyone and doing their requests. Stick to the songs that you know well and do the show the way you prepared. Sometimes we can do requests but it's better for you and your audience if you either set aside maybe 10 minutes at the end of the show to do requests OR say "I love that song but let me learn to play it well for you during my next visit". You can't please everyone all the time. Just do you best and be respectful and maybe add some new songs to your setlist for the next show!

If I know the song well enough to be able to play while reading chord charts will try it. But I know what you mean about now everyone starts asking for songs. I'm trying to get to the point i don't need an iPad so I'm going to stick to what I'm prepared to play for a while. Heading out to a 3 o'clock gig in Milford, MA in a bit.
It's a numbers game...
If you call on 10 senior communities you might book 1 gig. Thats the average. You'll wonder why they aren't getting back to you. Or if they even listened to your message . You'll question whether it's worth it to make calls when nobody returns them.. It's not you. It's a numbers game. If you are calling communities and not having much luck it's because you haven't called enough communities. Activity directors are MONUMENTALLY busy and don't always have time to answer the phone OR listen to voicemails because they are never at their desk. Make a list of 100 communities. Set aside a day (Tuesday,Wednesday,Thursday) and start calling between 11-2pm. Go through the whole list. You will book gigs this way. ❤️🎶🫡

This works. The days and times you suggest are key. I started with a list of 50 within 20 miles of my house. I've booked 12 pro Bono gigs so far. They're all turning into paid gigs. I'm going to expand my list to 40 miles and start the cold calls again. The problem with 40 miles out is I'm not sure if I can do all pro Bono that far away. But so far it's the only way I've gotten in the door quickly is to do it for free. So I'm sure I'll have to offer it up. Have another at 1:30 today.
