When I think about ethics, I think about the core values that guide our actions/decisions. Ethics is important in real estate because it encourages us to be not only professional but also selfless in serving our clients. While financial gain is a part of the profession, maintaining the integrity of the industry should always remain the top priority. To me, ethics is about building meaningful relationships with clients and giving them confidence that every aspect of the transaction is being handled with care, from maintaining confidentiality to carrying out thorough due diligence. Ethical practices creates trust, which is the foundation of every successful client or business relationship. As I write this post, I reflect on yesterday's session with the McKoy's. Listening to them explain their approach to seller financing sparked the empath in me because it demonstrated the importance of trust. Their clients trust them to act honestly and ethically, and they, in turn, work in their clients' best interests rather than focusing solely on closing a deal. Their example reinforced the idea that consistently upholding ethical standards/practices is what will allow us as real estate professionals to build lasting relationships, promote fair and transparent transactions, and achieve long-term success in our career. -M.
