Learn to Journal
My 'Learn to Journal' content will be featured here as well as on my Skool community and YouTube channel (@RamonaZihlkePlanning). Journal activities are beneficial in so many ways (stress relief, educational, bonding, fun) depending on the avenue you take. As clouds are something I love to watch, I have started a 'cloud journal' what will be interesting to review in the long haul. Whether it's clouds, bugs, trees, pick a topic of interest and write what you see. For example, with clouds, older children and adults may want to learn the specific names of the clouds. For younger children, have them describe what they see or make a story about it. A journal does not need to be perfect. A journal needs to reflect you, your personality, your bonding activity with family. Keep it fun, interesting. Then watch the rewards roll into your life.

What a great idea. @Ramona Zihlke are you taking pictures and printing them to add to the journal or sketching? Both sound like a great way to record the experience.
Screen Time and Developing Brains
I ran across this article and found it of interest, especially with our focus on connecting and playing as part of daily life. One thing that stood out to me was the importance of developing life skills as a child including language, communication, and problem-solving. Play fits in perfectly with these. Another standout was how to develop a plan to gently decrease screen time. I’ve included a link to the article but we have an expert on that, right here in the community with @Max Orlewicz I’m interested in your perspective, was the article on target, too hyped, or something else? https://www.ctvnews.ca/health/article/some-of-what-happens-during-youth-cant-be-reversed-its-another-reason-to-rethink-kids-screen-time/

@Betty Jo Winters funny you mention that as I was munching and reading, too. Thanks for your perspective.

@Sharon Yeh oh, when you have time, can you share more about the blue light risks?
Let's Celebrate
We have so much to celebrate this month. First, welcome to our new members, @Cristal Vancarson @Magda Pecsenye @Natale Padovesi and @Sharon Yeh I hope you find lots of new play ideas here and make some pals in the process. When you are ready, pop over to the Start Here classroom for quick explanation of how this community works, and after you visit #Choose Your First Adventure come back and share what it was with us. We'd also love to get to know you so please introduce yourself here or create a new post. The other two items we have to celebrate are: we are 1 person away from 100 members, that is amazing and would not be possible without your support and belief in play. When we reach 100, let's have a party. Speaking of parties, my birthday is coming up so watch out for a month long birthday celebration. What would you like to see during birthday month?

Many grandparents today are hearing more and more about homeschooling. Maybe your grandchildren are already being homeschooled. Maybe your adult children are considering it. Or maybe you're simply curious about what homeschooling actually looks like in today's world. On June 10th, yours truly will be joining @Anna Murrietta for a thoughtful conversation about homeschooling, learning at home, and the important role grandparents can play along the way. Together we'll explore: 🌿 How homeschooling works in today's world 🌿 The unique role grandparents can play in a homeschool journey 🌿 Simple ways grandparents can support learning at home without becoming the teacher 🌿 Creative ideas that strengthen both learning and connection 🌿 How everyday moments can become meaningful learning opportunities One of the questions we'll be exploring is: ✨ How does homeschooling really work... and where do grandparents fit in? Whether your grandchildren are already being homeschooled, considering homeschooling, or you're simply curious about how learning at home works, this conversation will offer practical insight, encouragement, and fresh ideas for staying connected and involved. 📅 June 10, 2026 🕛 12:00 PM Pacific Event 🔗 Conversation with Mary Nunaley This conversation isn't just about education. It's about relationships, connection, and discovering new ways to support your grandchildren as they learn, grow, and explore the world around them. We hope you'll join us.
