Introduction
Hello everyone, My name is Martin Stow and I am joining from Victoria, Australia. Originally from Yorkshire in the UK, I served for 15 years as a police officer with West Yorkshire Police before emigrating to Australia in 1988. Since then I have worked in training, emergency management, community projects and volunteer organisations. I am also living with Primary Progressive MS, which has taught me a great deal about resilience, adapting to change, and finding purpose when life doesn't always go to plan. Over the years I have been involved with Rotary, community support projects, drought relief for farmers, Neighbourhood Watch, and more recently I have created the Caring and Sharing community, which focuses on kindness, connection and supporting people through life's transitions, particularly retirement and major life changes. I joined The Resilience Lab because I believe resilience is not something we build alone. We grow stronger through connection, shared experiences and helping one another. I'm looking forward to learning from others, sharing what I've learned along the way, and contributing wherever I can. Thank you for having me. Martin

Thank you for the warm welcome. I completely agree. During my years in policing, and later through my work with retirees, I've seen how many people underestimate the importance of connection until it begins to disappear. For many of us, retirement brings freedom, but it can also bring the loss of routine, identity, and the everyday conversations we once took for granted. That's one of the reasons I've become passionate about helping people stay connected, find new purpose, and continue contributing in ways that matter to them. I'm looking forward to learning from everyone here and sharing ideas and experiences along the way.

@Roger Morgan I think you've hit the nail on the head. For years I looked forward to having more free time, then retirement arrived and I suddenly had plenty of it! The temptation is to fill every gap in the diary just because it's there. What I've learned is that there's a big difference between activity and purpose. As we say in Yorkshire, there's no point running around like a headless chicken if you're not heading somewhere worth going! Thank you for sharing your thoughts.
