Week 2: Getting Comfortable Around the Shower
Last week, your goal was simply entering the bathroom and spending a few minutes there. If that went well—even just a little—you're ready for the next step. This week isn't about taking a shower yet. It's about helping your child become comfortable around the shower. Many children become overwhelmed by the sound of running water, steam, or simply standing near the shower. By breaking this into small, predictable steps, we can reduce anxiety before asking them to do anything harder. This week's goal: Stand comfortably near the shower for 2–5 minutes. We'll focus on four small steps: 🚿 Turn the shower on for a short time. 👣 Stand next to the shower while staying fully dressed. 🎵 Continue using favorite music, toys, or comfort items if they help. ⭐ Celebrate every success—even if your child only stays for a few seconds longer than yesterday. Remember, confidence grows one small success at a time. There is no rush. If Week 1 still feels challenging, it's perfectly okay to repeat it before moving forward. Download this week's printable worksheet, practice for just a few minutes each day, and celebrate every bit of progress. Question for the community: How did your child respond to standing near the shower? Did anything help make the bathroom feel safer or calmer? Share your wins—and your challenges—so we can learn from one another.
