🐾 Monkey's Corner – Tuesday Morning Haiku Jam! 🐾
Good morning, poets! It's Tuesday, and Monkey has a challenge for you. Today we're keeping it simple: a haiku. A haiku is just three lines: 5 syllables 7 syllables 5 syllables Write about anything that caught your attention this morning—a sunrise, a cup of coffee, birds outside your window, your dog snoring at your feet, or a single thought you just can't shake. The beauty of a haiku isn't in using big words. It's in capturing one small moment that says something much bigger. Drop your haiku in the comments, read a few from your fellow poets, and leave some encouragement along the way. Let's fill Monkey's Corner with tiny poems that leave a lasting impression. 🐾 Ready... set... haiku!

Today's Question: If your life right now had to be described by just one line of poetry, what would that line be? No pressure. It can be something you wrote, or something that comes to you in the moment. Sometimes a single line says more than an entire poem.

Not my line I'm afraid but "Breathe In, Breathe Out, Move On"
🥁Today we explore Beat Poetry
Think freedom, jazz, stream of consciousness. No rules https://youtu.be/qKz7Pz7j77Y?is=CZrBTqnfIxCkS2gm

Love it. I am interested in how you feel Beat Poetry relates to hip hop, artists like Eminem, Dr Dre, Tupac and the such.

@Jason Strickland Boy have you sent me down a rabbit hole. Spent two days listening to Alan Ginsberg, reading TS Eliott (whose style though not beat poetry, seems to lean that way sometimes) and picked up Kerouac (again). So no writing done so far this weekend but seeds planted and expect a riotous harvest soon.
Living on the Edge Blues
All my life I travelled with two of my friends Oh all my life I’ve travelled with two of my friends Dionysus and Hades, oh they never leave me alone. My friends are like estranged parents Oh my friends behave like estranged parents They’re never in the same room at the same time. Dionysus dances, crazy like a fool Oh Dionysus dancing crazy look at that fool Oh one drink is too much one hundred is never enough. Dionysus causes trouble makes me leave my lady at home Dionysus causes trouble makes me leave my lady at home It don’t matter none, I won’t be sleeping alone. Hades is quiet, always catches me off guard Hades is oh so quiet, always catches me off guard Locks me in darkness, no way to find my way home. Hades is busy has my hands tying knots Hades so busy devil’s hands tying knots A handful of pills, more liquor Lethe’s stream. I went to the doctor he introduced me to Li I went to the doctor who told my friend was Li But Li was no good, killed Dionysus and also killed me. Doctor, gave me more friends to try Doctor, changed and gave me more friends to try Good friends who keep Dionysus and Hades under control. So life goes on, mainly content, productive and dry. So my life goes on content, productive and dry. Living on the edge one day at a time.
Planet of the Chefs
There is a problem I see When people learn to cook Not at their grandmother’s knee But from an overpriced book. Ridiculous measures Ingredients rare Supplanting real treasures Meals of love and care. A souçon of bollox, A waft of gnat’s fart Sweat from alcoholics Replace food from the heart. The measures I knew Needed no microscales Into the pot went a handful or two A jug, a glug, bony fishtails. Peel, deseed the tomatoes A ridiculous thing There’s goodness in those No harm in the skin. Don’t let it bubble Stare at the pot We had no time for that trouble, Just made sure it was hot. So mothers and fathers, daughters and sons Turn off the TV, podcasts deride Happiness comes from fillings our tums Learning to cook at granny’s sweet side. A planet of chefs starved to death For want of a cook.

Finn living near Barcelona. Looking to move off-grid in 2026. Not a hippy, but a socially aware ultra-liberal who really doesn't like people that much
