Rammed Earth Shower 🚿 progress being made!
Yesterday, I poured the floor on my new rammed earth outdoor shower. I'm happy to say, this luxurious shower will be available for workshop students starting in April! Yesterday, I also received the 2000 bricks that I'll be using to construct the stem wall for the massive cob wall we'll be constructing at our upcoming hands-on workshops. Check out the class schedule here: https://www.thiscobhouse.com/cob-workshops/ What do you think of the new shower so far?

Beautiful!!
I'm going to design a house for you - What do you want to see?
Hey guys, I had an idea for a new video where I'm going to record the screen of me designing a cob/natural home for you so you can see the process I go through. I want to hear some of your thoughts on what you'd like to see in a house design? - Size/square footage - Shape/rooms needed - Style - What climate it will be for? - Materials (timberframe, cob, hemp, etc) Let me know in the comments. Thanks!

Would love to see a house built for high wet humid areas
What style do you plan to build?
Cob, straw, and natural building methods can be used to build any style of structure. What is your preferred style of building?

Do you have any picture example of these that you described?
Homework - Collect a soil sample and share!
Optional homework, of course! But I'd like to see what sorts of subsoils people have. You can watch the video attached to see how to identify clay-rich subsoil. This type of soil can be used for cob, adobe, rammed earth, earth plaster, and straw-clay mixes. Post your soil sample photos here!

Thank you for this video, Alex! When I was looking into how to make pottery from regular clay out in the wild thay you could forage, one of the method they suggested to tell if you had any clay in your backyard was to fill a jar up about halfway with your soil, put water in it and let it sit. And anything that was left at the bottom is essentially your clay percentage in your soil. is this an accurate way to tell as well? Also, as a follow-up question, how many inches do you have to dig in order to find this clay?
Feedback - What instructional videos do you want to see?
Hi everyone, I'm going to be filling in any gaps within the Cob Building Basics course. What videos would you like to see added there? Let me know!

1. I would love to see an informational video about what types of mixed recipes and what specific types of earth in building suit different parts of the world or I guess rather different habitats of the world. 2. would love to see, if it’s not in there already, how to make a two-story cob home and how to put in the correct support. Was thinking about using more natural supports like regular tree trunks. Would love some information about what types of supports are best for different mixes and styles. 3. I’ve heard that using lime plaster can be dangerous when you’re applying so I would love to have an instructional section of how to appropriately use tools and mixes safely. What equipment to use while applying them, or how to cure them. 4. Something that’s along the line of debunking myths about cob or earth and housing. If anything I’ve said in here is in the class already then thank you so much! I haven’t taken a chance to look at it yet because in super busy with life. But I will take a chance to look at it over the summer.
