A Wonderful Debut Novel
I'm a little late to the party but just finished the last 100+ pages of The Correspondent by Virginia Evans and the ending was devastatingly touching. I often hesitate to fully embrace things that are over the top popular but so glad I didn't give up on this one.

@Zena Ryder Definitely a treat to read an older protagonist.

@Zena Ryder Thanks for sharing this title, Zena. I had of heard of it but just looked it up on Google. One of my favorites with a female character of a certain age is Breathing Lessons by Anne Tyler.
Woohoo! It’s Friday! What are you reading this weekend?
I’m reading the truly wonderful Whalebone Theatre by Julia Quinn (as well as smatterings of various nonfiction). You?

The Author Directory is live!
It's under the Classroom tab at the top of the page. The first couple of authors are in there now, @Julie Furxhi and @Clarissa Harwood! @Julia Quay, @Carrie Callaghan: You're both Book Cats (Level 3), so you're eligible for a spot in the directory too, so you can let readers know if you have books available and what they're about, your newsletter, social media, etc. Max. 250-ish words, first person, whatever links you like. @Marilee Aufdenkamp, I know you're busy with your presentation, and @Zane Dowling, I know you're waiting for your second edition to come out, but I didn't want you to think I've forgotten you 🙂 Whenever you're ready, send me your entry.

I sent it to you yesterday via email Zena. Do I need to cut and paste in here instead?

Otherwise I'll be back on my computer in half an hour for a meeting so I'll check then. Maybe it's hanging out in drafts.

Book review (no spoilers)
I really enjoyed The Golem and the Jinni by Helene Wecker! Set largely in late 19th century New York City - but flashing back to other times and places - this is wonderful historical fantasy. I love the characters of the golem and the jinni, and there are a bunch of great supporting characters too. But it’s really the folklore and the intricate plot that made it excellent for me. As the ending approached, I wondered if the author would be able to pull it all together in a satisfying way. And she absolutely did! Thanks so much for the recommendation, @Marilee Aufdenkamp and @Julie Furxhi

@Zena Ryder Thanks for passing that along, Zena. I must have read The G and J before this one came out because I'm certain I would have checked to see what else she'd written. Beautiful cover on the newest one and you're right, the early twentieth-century is my favorite era.
