I like your idea about taking care of the Airbnb in the same way as my home and will look at adding something like that to the listing. Unfortunately I don't live right beside it. When it is being used by guests, I stay with family which is at least an hour away. I do have a separate charge for cleaning fees in the back end that gets added to the nightly fee, and guests used to be able to see each of these in separate line items. At some point this changed, I assume as a result of Airbnb changes, now the guest can no longer see the separate cleaning fee line item. Back when we purchased airline tickets, we just saw one price. Now we get to choose pricing based on how much luggage we carry or check in. I appreciate this because I remember travelling years ago and there were travelers who I'd see check in a lot of luggage and I was just travelling light and we paid the same for our ticket. Now we pay based on what we need. I feel it's important for guests to see that there is a charge for cleaning so they appreciate where their money goes and that there is a real cost for the cleaning. I do have help cleaning by a company - the cleaning fee that is set in the listing does not always reflect how much is paid. It's important for Hosts to clean the place themselves to see where issues may come up and also appreciate how much time it takes and how sometimes some things can be missed by cleaners we pay. I feel like Airbnb could still charge the 15.5% across the board but still have it reflected as a line charge that the guest can see so the guest knows where their money is going. I don't like the idea of it being added this new way and then we paying Airbnb because this increases our Gross income and it's just one more accounting thing we need to look after. As well, from what I've been reading on other Facebook pages, Airbnb seems to be more proGuest than proHost and comments indicate that it may be because the guests are paying Airbnb directly for the guest service fees. But now - can it be said that, technically, it is the Host that it is paying Airbnb the Guest Service fee. As a result, will Airbnb side more with the Host than the guest.
