@Myriam Joseph Myriam, Thank you for the warm welcome! Having a 17 year old athlete has taught me a lot that I can carry with my 11 year old. One big lesson learned is that the athlete’s journey belongs to the child not the parent. I learned supporting my child through the journey is more important than trying to manage everything. I tend to do that. I learned encouragement and listening to them build confidence, resilience, and love for the sport. I learned a healthy balance between family, friends outside of the team, and school help shape the athlete. I should have learned that burnout is real and encouraged rest time. If I could do anything different for my 17 year old athlete, I would have listened more. Honestly, I spent too much time wondering if enough is enough, or if I’m making the right decisions. With my 11 year old, I plan to approach the sport differently. I want to help shape her confidence and resilience, but also teach her it is ok to take a step back and return stronger physically and mentally.
