Ready to Copyright Your Book? (US TIPS)
📚 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗱𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗿𝗲𝗴𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗽𝘆𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸? You’ve put time and creativity into your book—so let’s talk about protecting your work! In the U.S., copyright generally exists automatically once your original writing is saved or written down. 𝗥𝗲𝗴𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻 𝗼𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗽𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗰 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗱 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗱𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗮𝗹 𝗯𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗳𝗶𝘁𝘀. Here’s how to get started: ✅ 𝟭. 𝗩𝗶𝘀𝗶𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗼𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝘄𝗲𝗯𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗲 Go to copyright.gov/registration and follow the registration option for 𝗟𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀, which includes fiction and nonfiction books. ✅ 𝟮. 𝗖𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗮𝗻 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲𝘁𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 You’ll provide information such as your book’s title, author, copyright owner, and whether it has been published. If published, have your first publication date ready. ✅ 𝟯. 𝗣𝗮𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗲𝗲 Current online fees are $𝟰𝟱 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮𝗻 𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗦𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗹𝗲 𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 or $𝟲𝟱 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻. The $45 option has specific requirements, including one work, one individual author who owns the copyright, and no work made for hire. ✅ 𝟰. 𝗦𝘂𝗯𝗺𝗶𝘁 𝗮 𝗰𝗼𝗽𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸 This is called the “deposit.” Depending on your book’s publication status and format, you may upload a digital file or need to mail physical copies. Follow the instructions for your situation. ✅ 𝟱. 𝗪𝗮𝘁𝗰𝗵 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘂𝗽𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀 The Copyright Office reviews your application and may contact you with questions, so keep an eye on your email. 💡 𝗧𝗶𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀: Registering before infringement occurs—or within three months after first publication—can help preserve eligibility for statutory damages and attorney’s fees if infringement happens. You can still register an older book. 🤖 𝗨𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗔𝗜-𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗲𝘅𝘁 𝗼𝗿 𝗶𝗹𝗹𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀? Copyright protects qualifying human-authored contributions. AI-generated material that is more than minimal must be disclosed and excluded from the claim using the Standard Application. A book containing AI material may still have protectable human contributions. 𝗦𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗽𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗽𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗵𝗲𝗰𝗸𝗹𝗶𝘀𝘁!

Grow Your Audience & Book Reviews
If you’re looking for a way to get your book into more readers’ hands, consider giving away a free ebook as a lead magnet! A lead magnet is something valuable you offer for free in exchange for someone joining your email list. In this case, that could be a digital copy of your book. Here’s how you could put it into action: 1️⃣ 𝗦𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗴𝗼𝗮𝗹𝘀. Tell people what your book is about, who it’s for, and why you wrote it. Let them know you’re working to grow as an author and reach more readers. 2️⃣ 𝗢𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿 𝗮 𝗳𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝗲𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗰𝗼𝗽𝘆. Invite interested readers to sign up for your email list to receive it. Be clear that they’re joining your list and may hear from you again. 3️⃣ 𝗙𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗼𝘄 𝘂𝗽 𝗮𝗳𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆’𝘃𝗲 𝗵𝗮𝗱 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱. Thank them for downloading your book, check in, and let them know they’re welcome to share an honest review on Amazon. You could say something like: “Hi [Name]! I hope you’ve had a chance to check out [Book Title]. Thank you so much for giving my book a read! As an author, I’m working to reach more readers, and honest reviews can help other people decide whether a book is right for them. If you’d like to share your thoughts on Amazon, I’d really appreciate it. There’s no obligation, and I welcome your honest feedback!” Sometimes we hesitate to talk about our goals or ask for support, but people are often willing to help when they connect with your story. ❤️ 𝗔 𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗰𝗸 𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿: The free ebook should be a gift, not something readers receive 𝘪𝘯 𝘦𝘹𝘤𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘦 𝘧𝘰𝘳 a review. Reviews must be optional and honest—never ask specifically for a positive review or offer an additional reward. Amazon also has eligibility requirements for reviewers and rules about reviews from people with close personal connections to an author. Have you ever offered a free ebook to grow your audience? What kind of book or resource could you use as a lead magnet? 👇

Faceless Marketing & Viral Videos
What if you could create short videos that attract readers, generate interest in your books, and potentially drive more sales... without ever stepping in front of a camera? Believe it or not, some self-publishers are doing exactly that! And you don't need to be a professional video editor or spend hours creating content. In my newest YouTube video, I'm sharing: 🔥 3 things that can make your book marketing videos more effective (and why views alone don't necessarily mean sales). 📱 Why faceless videos are such an opportunity for authors, especially if you're not comfortable being on camera. How Do You Get Paid?
💰 You Published Your Book on Amazon KDP… Now How Do You Get Paid? I've been seeing this question pop up quite a bit lately! Authors finally get their books published on Amazon, but then they're wondering… 🤔 How do I know if someone bought my book? 🤔 Where can I see how much money I've made? 🤔 When does Amazon actually pay me? If you're new to Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP), here's how it works! 💵 1. How Do You Make Money With KDP? When someone purchases your paperback, hardcover, or eBook, you earn a royalty. Your royalty is the portion of the sale that Amazon pays you after applicable costs and fees. You can also earn royalties when Kindle Unlimited subscribers read pages of an eligible eBook enrolled in KDP Select! 📊 2. Where Do You Find Your Earnings? This is the part many new authors miss! 👉 Log in to your KDP account at https://kdp.amazon.com 👉 Click Reports at the top of your dashboard. 👉 Select Royalties Estimator to see how much you've earned. You can filter your earnings by book, marketplace, format, and date range. Want to see how many books you've sold? Check the Orders report! You can also go directly to your reports here: https://kdpreports.amazon.com 📅 3. When Does Amazon Pay You? Here's the important part: Amazon doesn't pay you immediately after a sale! KDP typically pays royalties approximately 60 days after the end of the month in which the sale was reported. For example: 📚 January sales → Paid at the end of March 📚 February sales → Paid at the end of April 📚 March sales → Paid at the end of May Expanded Distribution royalties generally take longer (approximately 90 days). So don't panic if you made sales this month but haven't received a deposit! 🏦 4. How Do You Receive Your Money? Amazon sends your royalties using the payment method you've set up in your KDP account. Make sure your banking information and tax details are completed correctly. Good news! Electronic funds transfers generally have no minimum royalty threshold, so you don't need to sell hundreds of books before receiving your first payment. Check and wire payments may have minimum thresholds.
