My name is MARE (pronounced Ma-YOR). I am the Owner and Master Loctician of SoulStrands Loc & Natural Hair Studio, owner of the SoulStrands Series brand, and a proud Red Loctician Academy Alumni & Trainer. Clock it. My loc journey began in 2001 when I started maintaining my mom’s locs. What started as helping family eventually became my passion and purpose. Fast forward to 2019, I became a student of the GOAT in the loc industry—a loctician I had faithfully followed on YouTube for years. Under that mentorship, another GOAT was created. In 2020, while serving as a USPS Letter Carrier during the COVID-19 pandemic, I made one of the biggest decisions of my life. I resigned from a secure career and bet on myself. I took the knowledge, skills, and discipline I gained through Red Loctician Academy and turned entrepreneurship from a side hustle into my full-time career. Then, in 2024, I opened the doors to my dream—a four-chair salon built from the ground up. Today, SoulStrands is more than a salon. It’s a place where healthy locs are restored, confidence is rebuilt, future locticians are trained, and excellence is the standard. This isn’t luck.
