Failure & Mindset
Players feel pressure when mistakes feel unsafe. Parents and players: mistakes are part of learning, not a sign of failure. When athletes feel safe to try, they play freer, learn faster, and grow in confidence. When mistakes feel dangerous, fear creeps in. I am often trying to make players play without the fear of failure… What helps you (or your kids) reset after a mistake? I would love to hear your thoughts 😊

Absolutely agree with this! I’ve been coaching in England for 3 years now. The idea that athletes often need to feel they belong before they can perform to their full potential is something that’s even more evident when coaching school level hockey. Focus on making the environment one that gives players the freedom to maximise there potential.
