What is the newest song you play at senior homes?
Well, at my retirement home gig today, someone asked for "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" (Cyndi Lauper, 1983) Fortunately I have played that before, so I was happy to play it, and a few sang along! So I'm wondering if we are entering the era of slowly bringing 80's music into senior homes. As a 51 year old, that idea scared me a bit! To make it even worse, I was once asked if I knew any Alanis Morissette songs! So, what are the 80's and 90's hits you're bringing into seniors homes?

Tequila!
As promised, in all its horribleness and silliness... Enjoy!

@Chris Ekblom I got called out on it too! "Don't talk with your mouth full!"

@Andrew Richardson thanks! I was a bit cautious of not blasting the kazoo through the mic. I think it got over top of my guitar and the noise. Not that it matters too much, we all had fun!
First Seniors Gig
Doing my first seniors concert this Tuesday. I am super excited. I feel ready. I have gleaned so many tips from watching your videos. The one I need to really keep forefront is play slower.

You got this!
Recording a Performance
I am going to do my first performance for a senior living facility in about a week. It's free, but I want to make the most of it to help get future paid gigs. Watching some of the videos of the activity directors that Chris has done it seems that having a video of a performance is important, not only to show that you can entertain, but to also show how you interact with the residents. Do you have to get permission from the activities director to do this? If so, do you arrange that in advance? I am planning to have my wife do the video using a DJI action camera, and then I will edit it. Also, if I post it to Youtube how much of a song can I use, and how many songs should I include? How long should the demo video be? Thanks!!!

My videos are about 60-90 seconds total, and song clips are about 8-10 seconds each. I'm not sure how YouTube will restrict. You can have a look at one of my reels here: https://www.instagram.com/marc.hoogstad.music/reel/DKQMRgsSTN8/
What songs are you rehearsing right now that you are loving?
I'm playing Jim Croce's 'Photographs & Memories' , Johnny Cash's version of 'I've been Everywhere', and George Harrison's 'While my Guitar Gently Weeps'. I intend to try all 3 before the end of this week's show line up and will share my progress with The Performer's Circle! What songs are you working on?

@Chris Ekblom honestly I don't think it matters too much. Mine was about $20, way more expensive then the cheapos. I've considered finding a harmonica holder and modding it if necessary. I want to try it for a public show first, see how poorly it goes. Maybe that will be part of the fun!

@Miriam P. Tierno I have a gigthis Friday afternoon, and I can record it. I'm headed out for a week immediately after that gig, so it will take some time to share it.
