Simplifying Parenting: Less Pressure, More Connection
Let go of perfection: Good enough is more than enough. You don’t need to do everything perfectly—just meet their core needs: safety, love, rest, and connection. - Use the “Top 2 Rule”: Each day, pick only 1–2 most important things for them and the home. Everything else is extra. 🗓️ Build simple routines - Routines cut down decision fatigue—kids feel secure, and you don’t have to plan from scratch every day. - Keep them consistent but flexible: wake-up, meals, homework, play, wind-down, bedtime. - Prepare ahead: Lay out clothes, pack bags, prep snacks/meals the night before—saves morning chaos. 🧠 Lighten the invisible mental load - Write it all down: Use a notebook, whiteboard, or phone app. Getting thoughts out of your head frees up mental space. - Centralize everything: One family calendar, one place for notes, one spot for school forms. No more searching or remembering. 🤝 Share and delegate - Age-appropriate chores: Even young kids can help—setting the table, putting toys away, feeding pets. It teaches responsibility and eases your load. - Accept help without guilt: Let family, friends, or trusted neighbours pitch in. Asking for support is not weakness—it’s smart parenting. - Trade favours: Swap childcare, school runs, or meal prep with other parents. 💛 Protect your energy - Schedule tiny recharge moments: Even 5–10 minutes a day—deep breathing, a drink in peace, sitting quietly—helps reset your energy. - Set gentle boundaries: It’s okay to say “not right now” or “we can do this tomorrow”. Over-scheduling leads to burnout. - Connect simply: Quality beats quantity—10 minutes of undivided attention works better than hours of distracted presence. 📌 Quick summary Prioritize → Routine → Write it down → Share the load → Recharge

@Jan Walters I remember my mum used to make sure the grandchildren had a snack every time they came back from school.
Creamy Chicken, Bacon and Mushroom Casserole
Make in batches and freeze. Yield: Approximately 8–10 servings Preparation: 20 minutes Cooking: 45–55 minutes This is a comforting family favourite with tender chicken, savoury bacon, mushrooms, and a rich, creamy sauce. Ingredients 1.62 kg chicken thigh fillets, cut into chunks 300 g bacon, chopped 500 g mushrooms, sliced 3 onions, diced 5 cloves garlic, crushed 75 g butter 75 g plain flour 1 litre chicken stock 400 ml cream 1½ tablespoons Dijon mustard 2 teaspoons dried thyme 2 tablespoons oil Salt and black pepper to taste Method: Brown the chicken. Heat the oil in a large pot. Brown the chicken in batches, then set aside. Build the flavour. Cook the bacon until golden. Add the onions and mushrooms and cook until softened. Stir in the garlic. Make the sauce. Add the butter. Once melted, stir in the flour and cook for one minute. Add the stock. Gradually pour in the chicken stock, stirring to create a smooth sauce. Simmer. Return the chicken to the pot. Add the thyme and mustard. Simmer gently for 25–35 minutes, until the chicken is thoroughly cooked. Finish with cream. Stir in the cream and simmer gently for another 5–10 minutes until the sauce thickens. Season to taste. Serve with: Creamy mashed potatoes, rice, pasta, or steamed vegetables. Family favourite tip: Add 300 g of frozen peas during the final five minutes for extra colour and sweetness.

💰Money Management Made Simpler
Parents carry the full responsibility for earning income, paying bills, caring for children, and planning for the future. Financial management becomes easier when practical systems are put in place and when a supportive community is available. 💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰💰 1. Create a Simple Budget 🌾 Track your budget: - Income - Essential expenses (housing, food, utilities) - Debt repayments - Savings - Discretionary spending A simple weekly budget is often easier to maintain than a monthly one. 2. Build an Emergency Fund 🦺 Even small amounts saved regularly can help cover: - Car repairs - Medical costs - School expenses - Unexpected bills Saving a little consistently is usually more effective than waiting until there is extra money. 3. Share Money-Saving Resources A community can help by exchanging: 🆘 - Budget-friendly meal plans - Free family activities - Second-hand clothing and furniture sources - Discount and coupon information 4. Teach Financial Literacy 💹 Offer short lessons on: - Managing debt - Improving credit scores - Saving strategies - Goal setting - Understanding loans and interest Knowledge can help parents make confident financial decisions. 5. Multiple Income Streams 💰 Where practical, parents could explore: - Affiliate marketing - Freelancing - Remote work - Selling handmade products - Tutoring or coaching Additional income streams can provide greater financial choices. 6. Reduce Isolation Through Community 🙏 Many parents face financial challenges. A supportive group can provide: - Encouragement - Practical advice - Resource sharing - Emotional support Sometimes the best financial help comes from learning what has worked for others in similar circumstances. 7. Set Realistic Financial Goals 🥅 Examples include: - Saving $500 for emergencies - Paying off a specific debt - Building three months of expenses in savings - Funding a child's educational needs Small wins build momentum. Handy Hint 🌱

@Jan Walters I know what you mean, but it's starting to build up again.
Passing the Torch: A New Chapter for Raised by a Village
I have really enjoyed being part of what you guys are building, and I'm grateful for the connections and friendships I've made along the way. However, as you already know, I'll be moving on soon. One thing I would really love to see is someone who is already part of the Raised by a Village community stepping forward to take over the reins, perhaps giving the community a new name and a fresh direction. So, please give some thought to whether this is something you might like to take responsibility for. Alternatively, perhaps someone would prefer to start something new of their own. As part of my transition, I'll be removing the content I've created and sharing it across Evolve Now Social and other platforms until I've made use of everything I've invested in developing for the classroom. I genuinely wish the very best to everyone. It's been a pleasure getting to know so many of you over the past year, and I hope the community continues to grow and develop. Although I'll be moving on, I won't disappear completely. I'll pop back from time to time to see how everyone is getting along. Wishing you all the very best for what lies ahead.

@Jan Walters That's what I'm trying to do. Simplify my life like Jesus did. Focus on what's most important.
🧾 Accountability
Accountability is what gives a person real stability in life — it’s the point where growth becomes intentional rather than accidental. Taking responsibility for one’s actions and accepting the results of choices. In simple terms, it means: 🌿 owning what you did, not shifting blame 🌿 being willing to face outcomes, even when they are uncomfortable 🌿 adjusting behaviour so better choices follow next time. Illustration: Think of a sailor steering a boat. If the boat drifts off course, accountability is the moment the sailor doesn’t say, “the wind did it” and walk away. Instead, they check the compass, adjust the sail, and correct the direction. 🌊⛵ The wind (circumstances) may influence things, but the steering (choices) still belongs to the sailor. Why it matters: Without accountability, lessons get lost. With it, even mistakes become stepping stones — because each one is reviewed, learned from, and used to refine future decisions.
