Sorry I couldn’t make it, granddaddy rancher got knocked down this weekend and went to an emergency surgery. He had a partial hip replacement and he is on the mends. 90 years young and needs to get his cattle pinned and sorted before the end of the year. We will be around but at the moment we’re running two ranches until he comes out of rehab🧡

@Martha Hartranft lol, I see. We raise cattle for beef too! But, I just wouldn’t have the heart to eat them 🤣

@Martha Hartranft I totally understand — it’s so easy to get attached when you hand-feed them and spend every day with them. 🩷 We have a steer going to the processor tomorrow that we call T-Bone, and while my whole life we’ve raised our own cattle for food so I’ve learned to keep that perspective, they are still very loved. Knowing they’re feeding our family real American beef, raised right with nothing added to preserve it, makes it all feel meaningful.
The Science Behind Why Highland Cows Are SO Fluffy 🧬🐮✨
Ever wondered WHY Highland cows are the fluffiest cows on earth?Their iconic fluff isn’t just adorable — it’s a brilliant genetic survival design that sets them apart from every other breed. Highlands have a double-layered coat that makes their fluff completely unique: ✨ Topcoat:Long, coarse guard hairs that repel rain, wind, and snow like a natural waterproof jacket ✨ Undercoat:A dense, wool-like layer that traps heat and keeps them warm even in freezing climates This two-layer system is why Highlands can thrive in harsh weather and still look like walking teddy bears. But here’s the coolest part… 👉 Their coat transforms with the seasons. In winter: the undercoat thickens, creating that huge, unbelievable fluff we all love.In summer: they shed the undercoat, and their entire look lightens and softens. Highland cows aren’t just cute…They’re one of the most fascinating, perfectly engineered breeds in the world. 🧬🐮💛 What do YOU want to learn next — color genetics, temperament, calving, or behavior? Do they calve easily, do you bottle feed more than nurse on their mothers?
