We use First Draft Pro for writing. And turn off the AI feature which is super nice It gives a outline to help build your writing and a few other fun features. Only issue is that you have to pay to use it but it has been a godsend. Also Google Fonts is a place you can find commerical free licensing on fonts. As fonts cost money that authors don't think about. There are a few websites for images that are stock friendly but you still have to be mindful of AI (if you are not a fan) -Unsplash -Pixels And I think there are a few others that my brain isnt thinking on... Also side note: Atticus is good to use but can be buggy. Another software that could be helpful to use is Vellum but its only for Apple and its expensive. That being said it essentially does the same thing.

@Jessica Disciacca the First Draft Pro is monthly sadly and Vellum is a one time fee.
🖤✨ Get to Know Me + Introduce Yourself
Hi everyone, and welcome—I am so truly glad you’re here. 🖤 I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself and also invite you to share your story, because this space is not just about learning—it’s about connection, growth, and building something meaningful together. My name is Jessica Ann Disciacca, and I’m a dark fantasy author, world-builder, and the co-founder of Dark Flame Society, where I create immersive literary events and opportunities that support authors, artists, and creatives. My writing journey began back in high school, but I officially wrote my first book in 2019 called The Morn Series. That first draft came in at over 350,000 words (yes… it was a lot 😅), and I remember feeling completely overwhelmed by the editing process. Instead of pushing through, I set it aside and started something new—Awakening the Dark Throne. I wrote that book in just two weeks, and in 2024 it was picked up by a publisher. While that experience taught me so much, I quickly realized that traditional publishing—at least with certain publishers—wasn’t the right fit for me. That’s when I fully stepped into the indie author world. From there, I dove in completely. I took classes, studied everything I could, learned through trial and error, and built my process from the ground up. My first year, I published four books. My second year, two more—and this year, I’m publishing my seventh. Now, my passion is helping other authors navigate this journey with more clarity, confidence, and support than I had in the beginning. Through my books, events, and communities like this one, my goal is simple:👉 to help you grow, be seen, and succeed as an author. ✨ Now it’s your turn… I would love to get to know you! Drop a comment below and share: 📖 What are you currently working on? ✍️ Are you writing your first book or have you already published? 🔥 What genre do you write in? 🎯 What is your biggest goal as an author right now? 💭 What is one thing you’re currently struggling with or want to learn?
